My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Lakeshire Park

Amanda Hamm ❤️ loved this book because...

I took a chance on a new (to me) author this year. It wasn’t a completely random pick as I’ve enjoyed other books from the same publisher. This was easy to select as one of my recent favorites. Her hero is channeling Mr. Darcy with his poor first impression and subsequent attempts to forge a relationship with the endearingly sympathetic heroine. I’ve already read a second book by Megan Walker and plan to seek out more.

By Megan Walker,

Why should I read it?

2 authors picked Lakeshire Park as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Brighton, England 1820 Amelia Moore wants only one thing--to secure the future happiness of her younger sister, Clara. With their stepfather's looming death, the two sisters will soon be on their own--without family, a home, or a penny to their names. When an invitation arrives to join a house party at Lakeshire Park, Amelia grasps at the chance. If she can encourage a match between Clara and their host, Sir Ronald, then at least her sister will be taken care of.
Little does she know that another guest, the arrogant and overconfident Mr. Peter Wood, is after the same goal…

Book cover of Flights of Fancy

Amanda Hamm ❤️ loved this book because...

I read this author’s first book several years ago and wasn’t much of a fan. Something made me give her a second chance this year, and I’m glad I did. I enjoyed this one enough that I’ve read four more of her books since.

Book cover of The Truth Is Out There

Amanda Hamm ❤️ loved this book because...

This is the first in a trilogy that’s part Catholic apologetics and part sci-fi comic book. I never would have thought anyone would put those two together, but it works brilliantly. I loved all three books. It was difficult to decide which to mention here since several in my family think the third is the best. But this one is the beginning of the series, which is where anyone should start.

Brendan and Erc are just your average interplanetary mailmen trying to find their way in the galaxy. A totally new kind of resource for Catholic apologetics and evangelization, The Truth Is Out There combines the visual excitement and quirky humor of graphic novels with solid popular philosophy and theology.
