Why read it?
3 authors picked The Lesbiana's Guide to Catholic School as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
When I pick up a book, I usually go for character-driven stories. This book was no exception. Sonora's writing drew me in. What is it like, being a queer Mexican-American teenager at a Catholic high school? If you read this book, you will discover how wonderful Sonora is at writing humor infused with struggle and emotion. The dialogue read so real and authentic, I felt as though I had been dropped into the scene. And really, what more could you ask for in a great story?
I flew through The Lesiana’s Guide to Catholic School book.
It was set, as the title suggests at a Catholic School. There were a lot of themes that I really related to, such as growing up in a religious family and being scared to reveal yourself true identity to your family and friends. I thought the family dynamics were very realistic, as were the characters.
This book was a very enjoyable read!

I’m so glad this book has been recognized for the writing, and the story itself. The audiobook narrator, Karla Serrata, is terrific.
I love a strong female lead character who has dreams, doubts, obstacles, and triumphs. The supporting cast is well-rounded and fully detailed. The main characters are queer teens of color. The story is relatable, fun, and at times emotional. Highly recommended.
