This is the first primary text of my recommendations. It has accompanied me ever since I became interested in medieval theology (almost forty years ago). It is an astonishing achievement in terms of its scope (covering almost every important theological and philosophical theme) and depth. (Few thinkers excel at being analytical and synthetic–Thomas does).
In the first part, Thomas covers the Christian understanding of God as Trinity and creation; in the third part, he deals with Christ and salvation, as well as the sacraments (unfinished as he passed away). In between these parts, he deals with ethics, including the cardinal…
