This is one of the most hilarious, bizarre, and relatable books about motherhood I've ever read. On the surface, it’s the story of an artist turned stay-at-home mom who believes she’s turning into a dog. But at its core, it's a brilliantly original exploration of art, power, and the identity crisis that often accompanies motherhood.

I loved how it tackled the all-consuming nature of motherhood. It doesn’t shy away from the tough topics and is also laugh-out-loud funny at times. It left me both entertained and deeply reflective.

This novel made me laugh out loud and made me ache with recognition.

A visual artist by training, the protagonist finds herself sequestered from the art world in the throes of early motherhood. In an uncanny, hilarious, and insightful story about a mother who turns into a dog, Nightbitch shows us the animality of motherhood—its fleshiness, its carnal love.

As a mother and an artist myself, I was inspired to lean into those aspects of parenting, trusting that even as they separate me from the world of propriety, ambition, and achievement, they ultimately enrich the art that I make.

I love reading about the horrors our minds can trick us into believing when under pressure. Am I turning into a dog? Have all my friends and family already turned into dogs? Bizarre metaphors for the stress dealt with daily are a great way to represent points of view in a new light.

In other words, Motherhood is like believing you might be turning into a dog. I’m a big fan of stories that take that wild leap and show me what it’s like to exist in someone else’s skin.

Not quite a tale of eating her young, but this book is a great one for restless new mothers grappling with the demands of motherhood and the pull of a life and dreams that were formed in the freedom of the childless years.

This is a dark book with enough raw and funny moments that you never question its premise. It’s a fun read and a great book for a new mother.
