Assistant to the Villain

Another book everyone is sick of me talking about and recommending (caveat: no one I've recommended it to has regretted reading it!).

Unique, hilarious, charming, DELIGHTFUL. If you're not in love with Kingsley by the end of the book, I'll eat my hat.

Read the second book in the series the DAY it came out. Yes, in one day. Such a fun ride.

Characters who don't fit into the world around them but eventually find their family are my catnip. I seriously can't resist them.

Evie is a disaster in the best kind of way. She tries SO HARD but everything seems to go wrong. And it's exactly that which catches the villain's attention.

I loved it takes a villain to show Evie that there's nothing wrong with her and the way she makes her way through the world. Her observations about the villain and his moods kept me laughing for the whole book.

It was funny and action packed and such a fun read, especially the business/lifestyle of the villain and the interactions between him and his assistant. It is awesome to have a villain romance and one with a grumpy-sunshine trope. I liked that the main man is a big softy for his love interest but no one else. I liked the magical aspects and the characters. This had the perfect amount of fantasy, mystery, and romance.

This book is on many folks’ Best of 2023 list, and for good reason. It’s romantic, funny, and irreverent. And Maehrer birthed it from a TikTok series of short videos. There’s nothing not to like here. 

Evie Sage needs a job badly. Her family needs the money to eat, so it doesn’t matter what employment she finds, just as long as they pay her. A chance run-in with the town’s most Evil Villain ends in a job offer, and she takes it. It doesn’t hurt that he’s attractive, even if he runs a nefarious crime empire.
