Book cover of Here One Moment

Jonathan T. Jefferson ❤️ loved this book because...

The premise is immediately intriguing, and especially interesting to anyone familiar with traveling on commercial airlines. Once introduced, the author does not leave the reader hanging regarding her characters; in fact, the depth of each character is thoroughly expanded. I found it impossible to put down for want of learning the many outcomes.

Book cover of You Like It Darker

Jonathan T. Jefferson 👍 liked this book because...

As a lifelong constant reader of Stephen King, this collection of twelve short stories was a must read. The title excited me. As dark as the author is historically known to be, this promised to be even darker. I did not find that to be especially true, but as always, a master storyteller he remains.

By Stephen King,

Why should I read it?

1 author picked You Like It Darker as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

'You like it darker? Fine, so do I', writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life - both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to read. King writes to feel 'the exhilaration of leaving ordinary day-to-day life behind', and in You Like it Darker, readers…

Book cover of Lost on a Mountain in Maine

Jonathan T. Jefferson ❤️ loved this book because...

From the mid-nineties to the early two thousands, I spent much of my free time hiking mountains all over the northeast United States. I have been lost both alone and with groups in the Catskills, Adirondacks, and White Mountains. Katahdin, the mountain on which the subject of this story was lost, is in a wilderness I have traveled. This boy's true ordeal brought my spirit back to walk beside him. I could feel his loneliness, sadness, and ravaged body as if it were my own. I guess everyone can gain from his experience.

Echoes from the Farm

By Jonathan T. Jefferson,

Book cover of Echoes from the Farm

What is my book about?

In the early 1970s, when author Jonathan T. Jefferson (a.k.a. "John-John") was a young child, his parents did something unprecedented for a working class African American family from Queens: They bought an old, dilapidated farmhouse in Upstate New York's dairy country as a summer home for them and their eight children. Initially fish out of water, over the next decade the Jefferson family became part of the landscape, the children eagerly anticipating those precious weeks of adventure in cow country.

Echoes from the Farm is Jonathan Jefferson's way of sharing the childhood memories from those years that have guided his interests throughout adulthood. Through those memories, he also shares a special part of his family's love and the love that was shown to them in a unique place in the American tapestry. He would not trade his childhood farm experiences for anything in the world.

Journey with John-John as he reminisces about collecting apples for his mother's homemade apple sauce, jumping out of a barn window into piles of hay, and warring with one of his older brothers. Laugh heartily as you read about how one of his friends mistook a porcupine for a bear, the frogs' legs he collected for dinner, and his close encounter with the longest snake ever seen in North America. Enjoy the way his most vivid recollections are brought to life by wonderful illustrations. And be inspired to embark on your own adventure to build precious memories for you and your family.
