The best sweet romances to make you swoon

Why am I passionate about this?

Known for my sweet billionaire romance novels, I am a purveyor of book boyfriends and happy endings. I absolutely love romance stories as you know exactly what you’re in for when you pick them up. You know there will be a Happily Ever After no matter how dire things get at any given point in the story so you can really just sit back and enjoy the ride. As an author I always write epilogues and I’ve built up a growing universe where characters pop in and out of each other’s books. It’s my happy place and as an author I love sharing that world with others.

What is my book about?

In this first book in my Crypto-Billionaire Brotherhood series, we meet Chase Duke who has his entire world flipped upside down when he inherits his friend’s four-year-old daughter. He has no other option than to return home to his family ranch in Montana, even though he hasn’t spoken to them in a decade. As he struggles to step into the role of a stand-in father, the presence of Maddy Baker complicates things further… especially as they discover neither of them have moved on.

The books I picked & why

Book cover of Dating Mr. Darcy

Laura Wolf Why did I love this book?

This light-hearted romcom is guaranteed to be a hit with Pride and Prejudice fans. The heroine, Emma Brady, is cast in a Jane Austen-themed reality TV dating show… Only she isn’t there looking for romance. Unlike the other contestants, her ulterior motive is to get exposure for her activewear brand so her business will thrive. Only things get complicated when she falls for Mr. Darcy after all – and he is committed to the show for reasons Emma can’t comprehend. Full of twists and turns, characterful contestants, and a truckload of Pride and Prejudice references, this story is an absolute riot.

What is this book about?

Is it a truth universally acknowledged, that a single girl must compete on reality TV to win a modern-day Mr. Darcy's heart?

Cast in a reality dating show, Emma Brady isn’t looking for love. She knows it could be the big break her new activewear line desperately needs. But is putting up with a Mr. Darcy wannabe worth it?

Sebastian Huntington-Ross is straight out of an Austen novel, and his looks are perfect for the show’s spotlight. But it’s hard to focus on his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders, and wickedly sexy accent when all Emma can see is his pride,…

Book cover of Her Stranded Billionaire Mix-Up

Laura Wolf Why did I love this book?

A woman left at the altar. A billionaire who bristles at love. Trapped together on a deserted island, can romance find them where rescue planes can’t? This desert island story is a gorgeous story of hope, healing, and love as Harley Wilson and Zachary Wolf find themselves relying on each other for survival. Their relationship changes a lot as they grow to truly care about each other, and once they are rescued it is impossible for them to go back to how things were before.

I absolutely love desert island stories as they strip away a lot of the hierarchy that people would have back in their old lives. Suddenly cash is not worth as much as firewood or food.

Then, without warning, her situation nosedived, leaving her single and jobless. Jumping at the first offer she received, she took an assistant position and packed a bag for Jamaica.

Book cover of A Man Worth Shaving For

Laura Wolf Why did I love this book?

The first installment of Michelle Pennington’s Shaped By Love series, A Man Worth Shaving For is a fantastic romantic comedy centering around Tessa and Logan. Tessa is the head of HR in a body-positive lingerie company, while Logan has been called in to analyse the business and give his opinion on where cuts should be made. They are not aware of their upcoming connection, however, until after Tessa is set up on a blind date with him through mutual friends… a date which did not go particularly well.

Michelle Pennington has written a lot of romances, but with romcom she blows everything else out of the water. I had pre-order alerts set up on my phone for when the next release in the series came out because I loved them that much.

Our goodnight kiss should have been goodbye.

We meant it to be.

But Monday morning there was Logan Jennings, in my office, deciding the fate of the company I love...and my job.

I never should have said the things I said or let myself feel the things I felt because connections like this don't just go away. Even when you desperately need them to.

In two weeks, he'll be gone, and nothing will ever be the same.

A clean and hilarious romcom with lots of heart and sizzle. You've been looking for a book like this! Grab your copy now!

Book cover of The Billionaire's Secret Marriage

Laura Wolf Why did I love this book?

I found this entire series a refreshing and original set of Billionaire trope romances, as each of the heroes lives with a permanent disability. One really important thing I think Tamie does really well with her books is that they don’t come across as shallow or exoticized – the characters are never magically healed for their happily ever afters – they have their challenges and it makes them who they are, but they don’t need those things to be fixed to be happy and whole. She has a lot of personal insight into this as well, as she covers in her Author’s Note that she wrote these books out of a personal desire to bring representation to this community out of love for her grandson who also – like Bran – happens to be blind.

Stephanie Caldwell fell in love with her boss, but he's too clueless to notice. And being blind is no excuse!

Steph doesn’t care that Bran is blind—at least he’ll never see the longing looks she gives him. If only she could warn him about the lack of love on his conniving fiancée’s face. But Steph has to keep her mouth shut, or she could lose her job, along with the health insurance that keeps her daughter alive.

Billionaire Branson Knight knows women regard him as a pitiful blind man, his wealth his only attraction. So his engagement is merely a…

Book cover of The Love Hypothesis

Laura Wolf Why did I love this book?

This wonderful novel has more spice than my other recommendations, but it is still totally sweet. It opens strong, with third-year PhD candidate Olive Wood desperately kissing the first man in sight. She has her reasons, but only when the dust settles does she realize the gravity of what she has done and who exactly she just kissed: Adam Carlson, a young hotshot professor who is known for his ruthless and grumpy attitude. When they discover that pretending to date could be beneficial for them both, they carry on with the ruse but end up finding something entirely more real than either of them anticipated. I found this book difficult to put down and read it in one weekend at great cost to my sleep.

New book alert!

Why am I passionate about this?

I have been a writer for more than twenty years and have favored pursuing “truth in fiction” rather than “money in formula.” I also spent over thirty years in the corporate world and was exposed to many situations reminiscent of those described in my fiction and in these recommended books. While I support enterprise, “enlightened capitalism” is preferable to the bare-knuckle type we have today, and which seems to resurface whenever regulation weakens. I also find writing novels closer to my lived experience connects me intimately with readers who are looking for socio-political, realist literature.

Shane's book list on exposing corporate, political, and personal corruption

What is my book about?

Avery Mann, a retired pharmaceuticals executive, is in crisis.

His wife dies of cancer, his son’s marriage is on the rocks, his grandson is having a meltdown, and his good friend is a victim of the robocalls scandal that invades the Canadian federal election. Throw in a reckless fling with a former colleague, a fire that destroys his retirement property, and a rumour emerging that the drug he helped bring to market years ago may have been responsible for the death of his wife, and Avery’s life goes into freefall.

Does an octogenarian beekeeper living on Vancouver Island hold the key to Avery’s recovery, a man holding secrets that put lives in jeopardy? Avery races across the country to find out, with crooked bosses, politicians, and assassins on his tail. Joseph spins a cautionary tale of corporate and political greed that is endemic to our times.
