Book cover of Unnatural Causes

Jennifer Barraclough ❤️ loved this book because...

although reading about the post-mortems carried out by a forensic pathologist was gruelling in places, the dedication and respect that Dr Shepherd obviously brought to his profession was educational and inspiring. There are fascinating descriptions of his cases, which involved the victims of many high-profile disasters. These are interwoven with an honest account of the damage to his mental health and family life that was exerted by his work until he found happiness in later life.

Book cover of Birnam Wood

Jennifer Barraclough ❤️ loved this book because...

it can be read as a suspenseful eco-thriller but is also a serious literary novel that explores some complex themes. The novel has a slow start, but gathers pace. From the story of an undercover environmental group operating around New Zealand I learned more about the culture and geography of my adopted country.

Book cover of The Afterlife Frequency: The Scientific Proof of Spiritual Contact and How That Awareness Will Change Your Life

Jennifer Barraclough ❤️ loved this book because...

I've always been interested in paranormal phenomena. Mark Anthony, being an Oxford-trained lawyer as well as a psychic medium, discusses after-death communication from a more academic viewpoint than is found in most popular books on this topic. He combines case histories of his clients with a review of scientific research.

You Yet Shall Die

By Jennifer Barraclough,

Book cover of You Yet Shall Die

What is my book about?

Set in rural Kent and Sussex in 2005, with flashbacks to postwar Oxford and the 1960s London nightclub scene, the story involves a long-ago crime and ends with a shocking twist.

Hilda is a recluse who lives with her rescue cats. After the death of her estranged father she has a visit from a woman claiming to be her half-sister. Disturbed but intrigued, she sets out to investigate her family background. Did her father, respected in his profession but a tyrant at home, lead a double life? Why did her mother, a semi-invalid who sought comfort in religion, die so young? Meanwhile Hilda’s brother, appalled to think that the father whom he worshipped had a “love child”, turns to desperate measures to protect the family’s reputation.
