A cocktail book containing very approachable recipes and an imbibing guide through time travelling that offers a new set of classics. Amanda Schuster also squares a unique perspective as you flip through the pages of this beautiful catalogue of drinks, adding just the right amount of historical backdrop and data that fill in the holes of the origin of a cocktail without getting too far out for the civilian enthusiast. Listed chronologically, beginning in the year 1475 (!) to the present, “Signature Cocktails” will present a new appreciation for what goes into the birth of a classic cocktail and what makes it classic to begin with. Open the book up anywhere for a concise description, easy to follow recipes and some good, old folklore debunking (which helps keep it on the light side). The photography gives you something to aim for though I wouldn’t get intimidated, it’s the flavor that counts and “Signature Cocktails” has plenty of flavor to spare.
A collection of 200 iconic drinks from around the globe, each of which has changed the culture of the cocktail
A signature cocktail is a bespoke drink that expresses the nature of the time, person, or place for which it was created. In this book, the author curates a collection of the most celebrated cocktails - from well-known classics such as the Bellini, to the up-to-the-minute Twin Cities from New York's ultra-hip Dead Rabbit bar. Signature cocktails have become an increasingly popular way to define the style and character of a celebrated…
Much more than a cocktail recipe book, “Slow Drinks” helps open the natural world up for the reader, lending real, hands-on expertise to the art of foraging, preserving and seasonal drinking and eating. Danny Childs’ knowledgeable voice is one of calm mentorship as he guides you through long-held traditions and new techniques for all sorts of modern uses. I learned more about berries than I ever thought I needed to know but am now grateful for the education. From jams and shrubs to Amari and bitters, “Slow Foods” is a must have for both home and professional drink makers (with and without alcohol) and cooks that will be a staple in your bar and kitchen for years to come.

Aaron Goldfarb chronicles the topsy-turvy world of rare whiskey hunting in his book, “Dusty Booze, In Search of Vintage Spirits”. As someone who was buying some of these bottles in the era in which they went appreciated but uncollected, it brough back fond memories of some well-loved tipples that are now sadly unavailable (or extremely expensive). The interesting stories of collectors who searched the bottom shelves of out of the way liquor stores for dusty bottles in hopes of finding forgotten ‘juice’ from defunct distilleries or discontinued labels or age statements, jump from the page in one memorable episode after another. One of my favorites was of one collector who purchased an entire liquor store, sight unseen, in hopes of finding liquid gold. This book will make a great gift for the whiskey lover in your life as they fondly remember all of the discontinued drams that they may or may not have enjoyed over the years.
