My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Ink

Ben Stoddard ❤️ loved this book because...

I love stories that take me to dark places. This book did just that. A man who kills by stealing the memories of others that are embedded in their tattoos. It was an intense read that I enjoyed from start to finish.

What is this book about?

Tattoo-artist Patty Cakes has her dead daughter's face tattooed on the back of her hand. Day by day it begins to fade, taking with it all of Patty's memories of her daughter. All she's left with the certain knowledge she has forgotten her lost child. The awareness of that loss is tearing her apart.

Monk Addison is a private investigator whose skin is covered with the tattooed faces of murder victims. He is a predator who hunts for killers, and the ghosts of all of those dead people haunt his life. Some of those faces have begun to fade, too,…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of My Forbidden Face

Ben Stoddard 👍 liked this book because...

This is a nonfiction book based on the Taliban occupation of Kabul in the late nineties and into the early 2000's. It's an important read that helps give perspective on some frightening trends that we face in the world today.

Why should I read it?

1 author picked My Forbidden Face as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Latifa was born into an educated middle-class Afghan family in Kabul in 1980. She dreamed of one day of becoming a journalist, she was interested in fashion, movies and friends. Her father was in the import/export business and her mother was a doctor.
Then in September 1996, Taliban soldiers seized power in Kabul. From that moment, Latifa, just 16 years old became a prisoner in her own home. Her school was closed. Her mother was banned from working. The simplest and most basic freedoms - walking down the street, looking out a window - were no longer hers. She was…

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Shadow of the Gods

Ben Stoddard ❤️ loved this book because...

This is a great viking story. Gritty, and well paced story development that doesn't spend long hours of the heroes journeying from one place to the next, but gets down to the important events that move the story along really well. Looking forward to finishing the trilogy later this year.

THE GREATEST SAGAS ARE WRITTEN IN BLOOD.

A century has passed since the gods fought and drove themselves to extinction. Now only their bones remain, promising great power to those brave enough to seek them out.

As whispers of war echo across the land of Vigrid, fate follows in the footsteps of three warriors: a huntress on a dangerous quest, a noblewoman pursuing battle fame, and a thrall seeking vengeance among the mercenaries known as the Bloodsworn.

All three will shape the fate of the world as it once more falls…

Don‘t forget about my book 😀

Pride of a King

By Ben Stoddard,

Book cover of Pride of a King

What is my book about?

Taking place in the world of Pannithor, my book involves war, intrigue, murder, and trauma, all centered around one of fantasy’s favorite races: dwarfs. The Free Clans are fighting to retake their lost homeland and are pleading with their Imperial cousins for aid. Banick Kholearm is dispatched as a diplomat but soon discovers an icy reception in the capital. Meanwhile, his friends fight to retain the tenuous hold they have in the north. A plot is uncovered that threatens to unravel everything they’ve fought for, and Banick’s ghosts whisper conspiracies in his ears.

Pannithor is a shared universe for the tabletop wargame Kings of War, and is a central piece of literature helping to establish the worldbuilding for the lore of that setting.
