Why read it?

2 authors picked The Terraformers as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

A being born to work for a corporation terraforming a planet reclaims her body, mind, and planet for herself and the people around her. This is only my second Newitz book, but I think I love her approach to science fiction. This is a book about imperialism, gender, sexuality, revolution and resistance, environmental justice, but it’s also a book about love, friendship, and self actualization that captures a thread of pulsing existence in our current world.

I love a book that not only has interesting ideas about the future, but plans for a future that feels real and lived-in. The far future of Sask-E is far from utopian, but it presents a believable way in which humanity has expanded its concepts of what it means to be human ... though corporations now own more of our lives than ever before.

These big ideas are often presented for the reader to puzzle out, and are never spoon-fed – but with some patience this book is all the more rewarding because of it.
