I wanted to know about the story (history) of France, from early times through to my own era. John Julius Norwich told me in the most refreshing and readable of styles. This was his last book I think, so he just let himself be himself. The result is that you become fond of this wise old man telling you the stories you did not know you needed to know. His love of France comes through too, which I am sure will help readers in both France and England understand his style. Such a delight to be educated! And, as well…
