Book cover of Our Green Heart

Ellen Dee Davidson ❤️ loved this book because...

Our Green Heart taught me so much about trees, forests, and how we can restore ourselves and Earth. Written in easy-to-read, understandable style, Diana Beresford-Kroeger shared science about trees and forests. I was thrilled to discover that the deep, peaceful hush I often feel in the ancient redwood forests is actually created by both the muffling effect of lichen and substances found in the bark of trees.

AN INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER

In this inspiring culmination of Diana Beresford-Kroeger’s life’s work as a botanist, biochemist, biologist and poet of the global forest, she delivers a challenge to us all to dig deeper into the science of forests and the ways they will save us from climate breakdown—and then do our part to plant and protect them.

As the last child in Ireland to receive a full Druidic education, Diana Beresford-Kroeger has brought an unusual and ancient holistic attitude to the science of trees, which has led her to many fresh insights into how closely we are tied to…

By Cynthia Jurs,

1 author picked Summoned by the Earth as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

The most pressing question in these uncertain times may well be, How can we bring healing and protection to the Earth? It was this very question that Cynthia Jurs carried with her in 1990 as she climbed a path high in the Himalayas, to meet an "old wise man in a cave"-a venerated lama from Nepal. In response to her question, the old lama gave her a formidable assignment based on an ancient practice from Tibet: she must procure earth treasure vases made of clay and potent medicines, fill them with prayers and symbolic offerings, and bury them around the…

Osprey Orielle-Lake takes us on a heartfelt journey in this memoir about the beauty of nature and her work with WeCan and indigenous folks to preserve and restore our environment. It's an inspiring story now assigned in some colleges, comparable to books like Braiding Sweetgrass.

What is this book about?

It's time to rewild ourselves and our dominant worldviews to build Earth-centered communities for all

These pages summon from our bones our commitment to defend this living Earth.
-Joanna Macy, author, Coming Back to Life and Active Hope

The dominant cultural worldview is based upon extraction and exploitation practices that have brought us to the precipice of social, environmental, and climate collapse. Braiding poetic storytelling, climate justice analyses, and collective knowledge of Earth-centered cultures, The Story is in Our Bones opens a portal to restoration and justice beyond the end of a world in crisis.

The Miracle Forest

By Ellen Dee Davidson,

Book cover of The Miracle Forest

What is my book about?

The Miracle Forest is the true story of a sustainable community in Colombia that spontaneously and miraculously managed to restore rainforest not seen in the area for thousands of years. So far they have planted 8 million trees and brought back over 260 species. It is a bilingual Spanish/English picture book written for the 8-12 age group, although parents, teachers, and librarians will be equally uplifted by this hopeful vision of restoration.
