Kara Loewentheil ❤️ loved this book because...

I love the way Miranda July blends realistic characters and realistic emotional contexts with slightly surreal actions and choices. This book gives you a deep experience in the revelatory, liberatory, but destabilizing experience of perimenopause and menopause, a topic that is finally getting more treatment in both fiction and non-fiction books.

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The New York Times bestselling author returns with an irreverently sexy, tender, hilarious and surprising novel about a woman upending her life

“A frank novel about a midlife awakening, which is funnier and more boldly human than you ever quite expect….the bravery of All Fours is nothing short of riveting.”—Vogue

“A novel that presses into that tender bruise about the anxiety of aging, of what it means to have a female body that is aging, and wanting the freedom to live a fuller life…Deeply funny and achingly true.” —LA Times

Book cover of My Husband

Kara Loewentheil ❤️ loved this book because...

This book is completely absorbing and immersive. You are taken deep into the psyche of a very unusual character, but you can see the places that her very warped thinking resonates with your own. There is a very powerful ending I did not see coming that blew me away, which I also loved. The translation into English is also excellent, if you are familiar with the way French people speak you will hear echoes of it in the language and wording, which I think preserves the flavor of the original text.

What is this book about?

In this suspenseful and darkly funny debut novel, a sophisticated French woman spends her life obsessing over her perfect husband-but can their marriage survive her passionate love?

"One of the most daring, provocative, unnervingly intimate thrillers I've read in years. Few writers besides Ruth Rendell and Patricia Highsmith can evoke domestic unease with such sangfroid; fewer still can make it such delirious fun." -A. J. Finn, #1 NYT bestselling author of The Woman in the Window

At forty years old, she has an enviable life: a successful career, stunning looks, a beautiful house in the suburbs, two healthy children, and…

Book cover of Thank You, More Please

Kara Loewentheil ❤️ loved this book because...

This is the feminist dating guide I wished I had when I was dating. I read it to better inform my work with my coaching clients, and it was such a refreshing change from all the terrible dating books that existed when I was dating. Those books all told me to change myself; Thank You, More Please didn't assume the reader is broken and needs fixing. Highly recommend for anyone dealing with dating drama, or anyone who works with clients who do!

Glamour’s "Best Books for Book Clubs to Read"

Get unstuck from the patriarchal dark ages and find love once and for all with this feminist guide to navigating the perils and pitfalls of modern dating.

It’s not your fault that dating sucks, that the patriarchy has screwed up how we find love. From addictive dating apps that were built like slot machines to advice like “Stop being so picky!” (aka “don’t trust yourself”), to single women being treated as less than because of their relationship status, dating can be a hot soup of existential exhaustion.

In Thank You, More Please,…

Take Back Your Brain: How a Sexist Society Gets in Your Head--and How to Get It Out

By Kara Loewentheil,

Book cover of Take Back Your Brain: How a Sexist Society Gets in Your Head--and How to Get It Out

What is my book about?

This New York Times Bestseller and USA Today #1 Bestseller is the manual for every woman who wants to stop endless negative self-talk, create unshakable confidence, and jump-start a life of joy and power.

It all begins with your thoughts: "I never look good in tight skirts. I can’t ask for a raise or my boss will think I’m greedy. I’m getting too old to find a partner. I’m a bad mom. I’m always behind. I’ll never be good enough."

What if every time you had a self-critical thought, you heard it in a man’s voice? The truth is not far off. Living in a patriarchy, women absorb a lifetime of messages that say your worth is defined by your looks, your accomplishments, and how well you take care of everyone around you. In fact, these messages are so pervasive that, even knowing they exist, they still manage to program themselves into our brains. The result is that women end up feeling anxious, guilty, and vaguely ashamed of themselves no matter how much they do for others or achieve for themselves.

So how do we deprogram our thoughts from patriarchy’s corrosive influence? And once we do, how can we create new, self-empowering beliefs?

Master Certified Life Coach and host of the UnF*ck Your Brain podcast Kara Loewentheil knows how. Despite graduating from Harvard Law School and getting her dream job, Kara spent her twenties and thirties feeling insecure and anxious, until she learned how to change her thoughts—which led her to become a coach. In Take Back Your Brain, she draws on cognitive psychology, feminist theory, and years of experience as a neuroplasticity-focused coach to break down how the patriarchy hijacks women’s brains, and how women can get free. To bridge the gap between your inner voice and your true potential, she says, you must begin with your thoughts. By using the skills in this book to literally rewire your brain, you can create new thought patterns that will directly transform outcomes in your life.

Ultimately, Take Back Your Brain invites you to replace the thoughts that no longer serve you and make room for a kind of confidence you never thought possible. Because when women unleash their true power, they awaken new possibilities for the world.
