Book cover of Taroniah at School

Aaron DeMott ❤️ loved this book because...

This book was just fun. It's a world you just want to hang out in, and Taroniah, through ups and downs and power ups still stays a person you'd want to be friends with.
Instead of "Oh no! Our poor herione!", this book is more "Heh, those poor bad guys have NO IDEA who they're messing with!"
The first book is mostly wonder-fiction, and is great for a good, fun, de-stressing time.
I went and bought the second book when I was done reading this one, and that was also a fun time.

Why should I read it?

What is this book about?

Taroniah was the natural born daughter of a liaison between the King of Marland and her mother, one of the Queen's Ladies in Waiting. Sadly, her mother died while she was still quite young and the King's Master of Arms, Robard, and his wife, Terencia, happily adopted her. The Queen hated Taroniah on sight as she represented her husband's infidelity, and although she was brought up in the Palace like the other noble children, many of them treated her poorly because her official status what that of a bastard. She found she got on far better with the common-born children…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Dark Ones

Aaron DeMott ❤️ loved this book because...

To be fair, this is the last book in the series... but the thing I liked best is that it wrapped up all the plot lines in a very satisfying manner.
The real bad guys show up, there's some great fights, and our heros are, well, without spoiling, heroic.

The story world is great, humanity finds fox-people in space, there's a big misunderstanding, then war. Humanity wins the war, and the story starts back in book one with the human commander of one of the occupying bases, and the priestess of the nearby town surrendering to him.
The series is about cultural issues, SF action, and a lot of character interactions.

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Dragon School: First Flight

Aaron DeMott ❤️ loved this book because...

This book had all the best parts of Pern and Harry Potter. Great character that you can identify with, cool dragons, and adventure.
It manages to be a lot of fun, and avoid all the bad repeated tropes that typically come with the genre.

The main character is someone you really want to root for, and her dragon is awesome, too. This was another one that I loved so much that bought the next book(s) in the series as soon as I was done with it.
