My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Burnout

Kathy Strobos ❤️ loved this book because...

I read this in one sitting and had such a happy feeling. As usual, it's laugh-out-loud funny, but underneath is quite serious commentary on modern society and feeling overwhelmed. Sophie Kinsella is my favorite author and I can't recommend her books enough.

Why should I read it?

1 author picked The Burnout as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Sparks fly in this delightful novel about two burned out professionals who meet at a ramshackle resort on the British seaside—from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher.

“I devoured The Burnout in one greedy gulp. It’s funny, sad, relatable, and brilliantly done. Sophie Kinsella is the queen of romantic comedy.”—Jojo Moyes

She can do anything . . . just not everything.

Sasha has had it. She cannot bring herself to respond to another inane, “urgent” (but obviously not at all urgent) email or participate in the corporate employee joyfulness program. She hasn’t seen her friends…

Book cover of The Love of My Afterlife

Kathy Strobos ❤️ loved this book because...

I also read this in one sitting (but that's why it's one of my favorite books of 2024). The plot was really clever, but I also loved this story about lonely neighbors and found family. It was a delight to read.

Loved the email exchange. I was so invested in this couple and I couldn't put it down. This was recommended by The Ripped Bodice, and I'm so glad I bought it.

By Kristina Forest,

Why should I read it?

1 author picked The Neighbor Favor as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

A shy bookworm enlists her charming neighbor to help her score a date, not knowing he’s the obscure author she’s been corresponding with, in this sparkling and heart-fluttering romance by Kristina Forest.

Shy, bookish, and admittedly awkward, Lily Greene has always felt inadequate compared to the rest of her accomplished family, who strive for Black excellence. She dreams of becoming a children’s books editor, but she’s been frustratingly stuck in the nonfiction division for years without a promotion in sight. Lily finds escapism in her correspondences with her favorite fantasy author, and what begins as two lonely people connecting over…

My Secret Snowflake

By Kathy Strobos,

Book cover of My Secret Snowflake

What is my book about?

Burned by love, Sebastian has sworn to remain single, but he may have just met his match.

Sebastian: I admit I’m attracted to my co-worker Iris—and not just because she was wearing glowing cat paw underwear. But even though she’s breached my first line of defense, I’m set in my Grinch ways. I need to prove myself--and dating my co-worker is definitely forbidden.

Iris is the Secret Snowflake for her perfect man—who is definitely not Sebastian.

Iris: No more naughty heartthrobs for me. Catching my rock star ex cheating cured me. All I’m asking Santa for is my work bonus and a nice guy. And that’s my Secret Snowflake recipient: Ernest. My plan: Befriend Sebastian, Ernest’s colleague, to figure out the perfect gift for Ernest to spark his interest.

But now our company has been hacked, and secrets abound. I’m working around the clock to figure out who and why—with our aloof, but oh-so-attractive company counsel, Sebastian—before I get a stocking filled with coal for the holidays. The last thing I should also be trying to decipher is him. I know I can trust Sebastian to help me. It’s trusting my heart that’s the problem.

When things are definitely not what they seem, sometimes it takes the light of the holidays to reveal the clues to love.
