My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Six Ways to Write a Love Letter

Isla Ryder ❤️ loved this book because...

This was a really fun read, partly because I am working on a musician romance right now, but also because it was just so darn sweet! There were so many quiet tender moments between the characters that it was impossible not to root for them.
I generally choose books to read that I think will help my own writing or will help me find like-minded authors. This one was a happy accident—a Little Free Library find that caught my eye. I’m so glad I read it, as I find getting the ‘famous’ person right in romance books is hard and this one really dug into what Vivi’s life was like and how fame hindered relationships. That turned out to be really impactful for me and something I hope I can capture with my singer-songwriter character.

By Jackson Pearce,

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Six Ways to Write a Love Letter as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Beloved author Jackson Pearce brings her trademark humor and emotion to a compelling and hopelessly romantic story about how impossible fame and love can be on their own, much less together.

Maybe everything they say about Vivi Swan is true.

Maybe America's Sweetheart is all fluff and no substance.

And maybe every guy she dates is fodder for her next breakup song.

But session drummer Remy Young doesn't care. Touring with Vivi Swan means more money than he and his brother could ever earn on their own. And he's smart enough to keep himself away from drama.

Then a bus…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Soar

Isla Ryder ❤️ loved this book because...

This book was an easy choice for me. I always want more books in my genre and I knew the author was a HorseGirl too, so I had high hopes... and all expectations were met! I would describe this the way I do my own work: 50% romance, 50% horse book and that is a magic combination for me! It kept me turning pages to see not only how the characters came together and got over their initial impressions, but how the show season would turn out!

This is a series book, but can be read as a stand-alone (another favorite feature for me that I emulate) though I definitely did not wait long to dive into the rest of the series. They could all make it to this list, but Soar was my first, so it got the spot!

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Soar as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it. This book is for kids age 13, 14, 15, and 16.

What is this book about?

Can they soar in the arena…and beyond?

Grand Prix show jumper Trina Powers has one goal: make it to the Olympics. After nearly a decade of failed attempts, injured horses and broken relationships, she's finally a (very partial) owner of the horse that can take her to the top. And she's learned her lesson: no man will stand in her way this time.

That is until Grayson J. Sterling shows up as the new majority owner of her horse. He's brusque and disgustingly rich—the two worst features a man could have, according to Trina—and devastatingly handsome. Can Trina and Grayson…

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Vet Upstairs

Isla Ryder ❤️ loved this book because...

If I’m going to pick my second favorite animal, it's going to be cats AND Istanbul is on my list of dream vacations so this novella jumped out at me! I love reading about characters at a crossroads and that’s where we find Celia—taking a new short term job and wondering if she should set down roots. An adorable kitten helps, as does the hunky veterinarian upstairs.

Cute little Badem gets just as much attention as the human characters and that is my jam! I love making animal sidekicks have just as much personality as their two-legged counterparts and it’s a real treat when I find other books that do the same. I was rooting for Celia’s relationship with Badem just as much as the one with Enes!

Second Chance at the Water Jump

By Isla Ryder,

Book cover of Second Chance at the Water Jump

What is my book about?

Sweet, slow-burn equestrian romance.

All Savannah wants is to qualify for the Eventing championships with her horse Tucker. They’ve been working hard and staying focused, but an early season fall really starts the year off wrong. Worse yet, it’s caught in all its water-soaked glory by the photographer Evan—who also happens to be the guy she ditched before their blind date even started.

Evan is tired of working in a studio and is taking his photography business into the horse world. There’s a lot to learn, but the daunting task is certainly more fun when Savannah ends up in front of his lens. That blind date of theirs wasn’t as blind as she thinks: he might have begged for the set-up.

Can she make it to the championships and through that dreaded water jump?

Can he get her to put aside her old relationship woes and give him a shot?
