This beautifully illustrated book is rich in family and memories, and the idea that life is filled with magic. Stories are magic, growing things from the land is magic, weaving is magic, drawing, building...the act of creation is magic. Sometimes rain and sorrow can make you feel like magic has abandoned you, but it remains. "Without rain, there would be no harvest." And "sometimes magic takes its time." But it is there in love and community. It is there in your hands, waiting to be expressed. This is the author/illustrator's way of celebrating her roots and her family in a way that feels quite universal and inspiring. Each one of us is the product of our ancestors, our immediate family, and our community. Love this book!
