1902. Sherlock Holmes’s latest case begins with a severed finger. With no signs of decomposition and an adverse reaction to silver, it is the most perplexing mystery yet – one that relates to their next client – and the moment Sherlock’s and Watson’s lives are irrevocably changed.
A Transylvanian nobleman called Count Dracula arrives at Baker Street seeking Sherlock’s help, for his beloved wife Mina has been kidnapped. Review
James Lovegrove, author of The Cthulhu Casebooks
"A great start to a new series. Klaver knows his Holmes – and his Dracula – and tells a compelling tale that will delight all fans of Holmes and things horrific."
Eric Brown, author of The Martian Menace
"This is wonderful storytelling – bold; filled with energy and knowledge – which grabs the reader by the lapels of his or her smoking jacket and drags them merrily into the adventure. Doyle's voice is recaptured and slyly modernised. I can't wait to read the next instalment in what promises to be a supremely witty and dynamic sequence of stories." J.S. Barnes, author of Dracula's Child and The City of Dr Moreau
"A scintillating mash-up of the two big names in Victorian mystery and horror... Put your feet up, light your pipe, pour yourself a nice cup of warm blood, and enjoy."
Philip Purser-Hallard, author of Sherlock Holmes: The Vanishing Man
"I honestly couldn’t put it down… You’ll hold your breath, I promise. It’s quite simply the most believable Holmes/fantasy crossover I’ve ever read"
Age of Steam
"What's most remarkable about this story is the degree of authenticity Klaver gives it–it reads just like a story by Doyle… exciting and refreshingly unpredictable"
Heath Lowrance
“Sherlock Holmes and Count Dracula has a 1940s’ B-movie ring to it, but it’s a sprightly romp paying tribute to the classics.” Peterborough Telegraph Review
“A supernatural mystery to shiver the timbers... Good page turning stuff.” Frost Magazine
“Sherlock Holmes & Count Dracula by Christian Klaver is the ultimate ‘mash-up’.” Shots Magazine
“An incredibly imaginative new take on these characters, and Klaver not only brings a fresh spin to Holmes and Watson, but the Dracula mythos too. It establishes a bold new status quo for the world's greatest detective, one that I can't wait to see more of in future volumes.” Trans-scribe Review
“It is lovely to read a book and to realise that you must be having as much fun reading the story as the author had writing it. This is a fine addition to the fantasy world’s take on Holmes. Curl up in a comfy chair on a dark night with a suitable beverage and enjoy yourself!” Runalong the Shelves Review
"Refreshingly original, inherently fascinating, impressively entertaining, deftly crafted, and a thoroughly compelling read from first page to last." -Midwest Book Review
More praise for Christian Klaver
"Klaver’s worldbuilding is immersive… with a thrilling pace"
KIRKUS
"Rich, lyrical descriptions augment the fantastical source material in this engaging series starter"
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
"This is your cold, wintry evening curl up with a book novel. " - Borg.com
"Klaver dazzles with an adventure rooted in complex feelings about family loyalties, and full to the brim with mystery." -Tobias S. Buckell

- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2024A very nice read. A well written book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2024Sherlock Holmes? I'm in. Our favorite detective and his stalwart friend Dr. Jonh Watson mixed with paranormal puzzles to unravel? Oh, hell yeah! I don't want to give away any surprises but the analytical, logical "science has an explanation for everything" world's first private detective has a come a long way to believe in the unbelievable. I was in the mood for a Victorian/Edwardian horror book and this series filled the bill quite nicely. The author writes similarly to the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle format with use of archaic, rarely used words and phrases no longer used in present day authenticating the desired timeline. The author ensnares the reader and plunks you down on a cold, wet, foggy London back alley street so well you'll swear you hear the hiss and sputtering of gas lamps. It's a great series and fantastical escape from the humdrum everyday world. It's like taking a vacation in a time machine. Lot's of effort and talent by this author - I'll definitely read the trilogy.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2022As a life-long fan of all things Holmes, there came a time when the original Conan Doyle works just weren't enough. I craved something new, yet familiar. Something fun, but kinda creepy. Something full of intellectual puzzle solving, yet action packed. This author gives you all that and more. Twists and turns abound! Villians aren't what they seem, and neither are the heroes. It's a beautiful mash up of two classics.
I anxiously await the author's future work, hopefully a long series of supernatural and gothic characters woven into the rich tapestry of this new Holmes and Watson dynamic.
If you're looking for a fresh take on Holmes and Watson that feels like Conan Doyle, himself, wrote it (but better), look no further. Sit down with your favorite tea and dive in.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2024Even through the story line is not true, the author does a great job of recreating the characters and conversations of Doyle’s characters Holmes & Watson.. Fun little book
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2022Decent, entertaining, but kinda scattered. Started fine and then jumped to a tale about a boat run by basically Lovecraft type monsters. Did not stay focused or even tie things together well. Ending very rushed
- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2022This book was a really peasant surprise. The danger of books like these is the obvious attempt to get your attention by combining two incredibly popular characters and going to keep you with the story. Klaver actually does an amazing job keeping the style and feel of the Doyle books with an authentic Watson voice. Even better is his application of Holmesian logic to the vampire mythos. Overall it was a really good story and a good read that kept me going. I wish he had done something different with the ultimate villain. I felt there was a lot of ground to be covered there and a true chance to separate himself as a Holmes writer but it was not enough to downgrade the rest of the book. If you like Holmes and like vampires read this book with joy.

Very high recommendation if you like either Sherlock or Dracula....Can't wait for dossier #2 ...

Enjoying this "dossier" very much - great writing and a fun mash-up of two classic literary characters. Have already purchased the next with Mr. Hyde!

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it
Great mash up story. Cool that Dracula isn't always the villain.

4.0 out of 5 stars SHERLOCK HOLMES AND COUNT DRACULA
I ENJOYED THE BOOK MORE THAN OTHER SIMILAR ONES WHOSE AUTHORS ALSO DRAW THEIR INSPIRATION FROM THE WORKS OF SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE. THE BOOK IS WITTEN IN A STYLE THAT REMINDED ME OF DOYLE'S STYLE AND ALTHOUGH I DON'T THINK I'D READ IT A SECOND TIME, I FOUND THE STORY INTERESTING ALBEIT FAR-FETCED. ALLUSIONS ARE MADE TO MANY OF THE ORIGINAL SHERLOCK HOLMES STORIES, TO STOKER'S DRACULA -WHICH THE GREAT VAMPIRE HIMSELF DISMISSES AS A PACK OF LIES- AND ALSO TO THE WORKS OF LOVECRAFT. THE ONE THING THAT SOMETIMES ANNOYED ME WAS THE EXISTENCE OF TYPOS THAT SLIGHTLY BETTER EDITING WOULD HAVE DONE AWAY WITH!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sherlock is in good hands
What a great read , you would be forgiven in thinking this was an original story telling by the great author himself.
This has all the great characteristics of a Sherlock Holmes novel, it's extremely well written, it takes its time building the story and never rushes the plot.
I would definitely recommend this book to any fans of Sherlock Holmes.
