My Dark Romeo: An Enemies-to-Lovers Romance (Dark Prince Road) Paperback – March 1, 2023
Purchase options and add-ons
My fairy tale turned into a cautionary one.
Inked in tar and sealed in tears.
From Wall Street Journal bestsellers L.J. Shen and Parker S. Huntington comes an explosive marriage of inconvenience...between a tarnished Romeo and a reluctant Juliet.
It was supposed to be a harmless kiss at a lavish debutante ball.
A clandestine moment with a handsome stranger.
But unlike his namesake, my Romeo isn’t driven by love.
He’s fueled by revenge.
To him, I’m a chess piece. Leverage.
His rival’s betrothed.
To me, he is a man deserving of poison.
A dark prince I refuse to marry.
He thinks I’ll accept my fate.
Well, I plan to rewrite it.
And in my story, Juliet doesn’t die.
But Romeo? He perishes.
Authors’ Notes: My Dark Romeo is a standalone reluctant arranged marriage romance between a cruel billionaire heir and a feisty heiress unafraid to fight back. It is set in the decadent Dark Prince Road world.

About the authors
L.J. Shen is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post, and #1 Amazon bestselling author of contemporary and NA romance. Her books have been translated in over twenty different countries. She hopes to visit all of them.
She lives in a picturesque beach town with her family, pets and inner demons, and enjoys reading, traveling, cooking and spending time with her grumpy cat.
Connect with her on Instagram (@authorljshen).
Parker S. Huntington is a stay-at-home dog mom from SoCal, where she discovered her allergy to rain. In spite of her shoddy attendance record and strong aversion to homework, she earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside and an A.L.M. in Literature from Harvard. When she's not writing or exchanging food pics with her friends, she's binge-watching an unhealthy amount of Netflix while curled up with her dogs.
Parker hates talking about herself and is (also) allergic to social media, but you can catch up with her in her newsletter at www.parkershuntington.com. Occasionally, she'll post a TikTok video, which you can find at @parkershuntington.

Yes, it started out dark with the men oppressively hating women but morphed into something real and rich over the course of the book. It was a slow burn and the build up made me fall that much more in love with it. With having read a few books by Huntington (who is an amazing writer herself) I could tell (well, I think so at least) who wrote what and that was fun too! Parker seems to write books where her H respects the h a bit more than Shens more recent books but still have a heck of a backbone and doesn't take crap. We got a good blend here and it made this book magical.
I loved how we got to peel back the layers of both characters and how they seemed to have absolutely NOTHING in common only to discover they both have fierce determination and dogged steadfastness, not allowing anything to get in the way of what they wanted. That right there was the foundation of this union and it blossomed into a thing of beauty. The , of course, we have those infamous stëamy scenes! 😮💨those bad boys were straight up unapologetically raunchy! 😏I even had to clutch my metaphorical pearls a time or two and THATS saying something! For the actual act to not even be the end game of the smëxy times this made it that much more naüghty in my opinion! These two were 🌶️💦🥵🔥HOT without a doubt. Yeah, these authors know how to light it up for sure!!
I have mixed feelings about the secondary characters and will wait to see how their stories pan out in the next few books to fully make a judgement but I did like them, they were fun and brought some laughter to the story for sure! But also have the potential to go the crazy route too (and who says that's a bad thing)??
All in all, this was a great read and even greater listen. I first heard the narrator Jacob Morgan in my 1st Parker S. Huntington book and have followed him since. I LOVE his voice, just YUM! Stella Hunter is also one of my favorites. She gives great inflection and draws you deeper into the story she makes you feel part of it. These 2 together? Wow, made for an amazing, hit AF read. Its such a relief when authors get the right narrators to pair with their books! These 2 were spot on in this case and you will be grateful for it if you chose to listen! I did a little bit of both (read & listen) as I like to listen when I'm driving too! Can't wait to see what happens next!
This book was pretty good, I liked Romeo's character and the way he was written a lot. I didn't like the main character very much, though, which knocked this book's rating down. She's not very interesting, and quite annoying at times. It's rare that I read a book and not like the character whose perspective the book is written from. I feel like Romeo was extremely well written and the small changes in his demeanor leading up to the end of the book are subtle but easy to pick up on towards the end of the book. I liked Romeo's friends a lot and the way he's more relaxed with them throughout the book. I did, however, find the basic plot of the story to be just that- basic. A rude rich guy marries a hot, but annoying woman because of his enemy and then falls in love with her. A lot of books are written with this basic plot, but they add to it, making it more interesting and less cliche. Take King of Wrath, same basic storyline, but the author added so much to both main characters that the book was impossible to put down. I think the author of this book was so focused on Romeo's character that she forgot about the main character. She simply made the main annoying, with no depth. She's like a beautiful pool that looks full of promise, then you try to jump in and it's only a few inches deep. Also, the smut is awful. It's poorly written, and downright weird in some chapters. I don't usually read much of it anyway, I usually just skip, but I noticed that some of the scenes the author wrote are just weird and grossed me out.
I think the author could do so much with this book if she added more depth to the main and the plot, and took out some of the poorly written inappropriate scenes.
I immediately fell in love with this book. As soon as he called her Shortbread, I was a goner 😍 It had humor and spicy romance. It was exactly what I wanted for the contemporary romance mood that I was in. I loved the side characters as well and the text message convos between the guys had me laughing so hard.

My Dark Romeo written by Parker S Huntington and LJ Shen starts with a debutante ball in a small town in Georgia in which Dark, Powerful and Larger than Life Romeo catches the attention of everyone, everyone's except for Dallas'. Dallas is more focused on the sweet treats (English Shortbread) in Romeo's table which peaks Romeo's interest in this wild creature. Romeo offers Dallas a quick escape, an adventure before she has to fulfill her commitment with her selected fiance Madison. What starts as a fling ends up being Dallas' worst nightmare as she gets caught and is treated as damaged goods being promised to Romeo, a husband she doesn't want and is shipped to DC, away from her family and her friends. Would cold Romeo warm to sweet, smart Dallas or will Dallas wilt under Romeo's care?
My Dark Romeo is definitely one of my Top Readings of 2023: we have a marriage of convenience (or inconvenience due to its rough start) between a dark, broody and secretive Hero looking for revenge and a sassy, super smart and even vengeful heroine that will stop at nothing until she gets more than Romeo's attention. Not only everything she does to catch it, but Romeo's reaction to her actions are definitely super fun to read. Romeo was a Hero like no other, his inner conflict was amazing. Dallas stole my heart! Also there are some amazing side characters that definitely need their own story. I can't wait for what these two authors have prepared for us, this literary world is ready to shake us all readers.
What to Expect:
Dark Romance
Marriage of Convenience (or Inconvenience? Lol!)
Vengeful Hero
Sassy and Super Smart Heroine
Amazing Side Characters (we need their story asap)
I’d normally say a bit about how the story starts but I’m not going to. Instead I’m going to say what I loved.
Romeo’s friends Oliver and Zach, if you have watched the Gilmore girls and when Rory meets Logan and his group of friends, Oliver and Zach are just like that, funny, rich, do what they want. I adored the little text chats they have throughout this book, I had a chuckle multiple times.
Dallas is one of those characters where you think how do you get through life, because she eats whatever she wants and lives in her own little world, but once you get to know her, you know why she is the way she is and I love her for that. This goes the same for Romeo, he is very closed off, even in his POV (which I loved by the way, when the author hides things in that persons POV, its *chiefs kiss* perfect) but you find out why he’s like that throughout the book.
The plot was perfect, just loved how everything came together and no loose ends. I don’t think I can say much more as the page won’t let me.
