4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 4,101 ratings

The Dragon Protector asking Mackenzie for a favor—Maybe the sky truly has fallen...

Mackenzie works for Catch and Release, a bounty-hunting guild, and she loves her job.

She goes after the usual suspects: Rogue vampires, feral shifters, and crazed mages. Nightmare stuff.

The last thing she ever imagined was Lucan, an infuriating and high-ranking dragon shifter, hiring her to find a child kidnapped from his Tribe.

Even though her magical talents lean more towards bodyguarding and hunting dangerous beings, condemning a kid to death isn’t who she is.

But as Mackenzie gets deeper into her hunt, she uncovers deadly secrets surrounding the child, the kidnapper, and Lucan himself...

One thing’s for sure; when the going gets tough, Mackenzie gets dangerous!

About the Author

By day, JS Kennedy works as a rescue specialist with the Canadian Coast Guard. By night, she patiently slogs away, making her books come to life scene by scene. Never much of an academic, she nonetheless enjoyed telling stories and can remember regaling teachers with stories of a piggy bank with nefarious plans. Affectionately known as a 'geek in a onesie, ' Kennedy enjoys sci-fi, fantasy, and, most of all, dragons. She's also a big fan of the Marvel movies and has earned the nickname Cappie, after Captain America. Never in her wildest dreams did she think her books would be so well-liked by so many people, and is forever grateful to everyone who has read or listened to her work and left a review. But with the patience and the wondrous support of her family, friends, and random people on the internet, she finally has many novels she is proud to share.

Justine Eyre has turned her passion for reading and remarkable facility with accents into her dream career. This classically trained, multilingual actress has narrated well over 400 audiobooks and has been honored to receive a coveted Audie Award and multiple AudioFile Earphones Awards. Appearing in leading roles onstage in King Lear and The Crucible, she has also graced the screen in Two and Half Men and Mad Men amongst her many television credits.

This is a new series and a new author to me, and I very much enjoyed this captivating tale and the extremely interesting and energetic characters. This has a post apocalyptic feel to it, but the twist to that, is it comes from Earth herself rebelling against all the abuse of mankind.
In a world of magic, shifters and vampires the world building is uniquely beautiful and I promise there is lots of action but there is also plenty of whimsy and love.
This is a family friendly book for all ages and ratings with no language to cringe over and alas while there are no steamy parts, I confess I stayed rooted to my chair until I read the entire book, so have snacks and drinks close to hand.
I am absolutely thrilled to discover another author for my collections.

I like the fmc, the world is interesting as is the secret being hidden. There were however parts that dragged, these suffered over explanation. For instance explaining where everything is located in a building instead of just a simple heading to our in-house gym bored me to tears. And I can’t remember any of it anyways.

But other than that it had full plot, nice characters and building. It was one of the rare few on KU that even with the slow parts is worth a read.

I really liked this story! The family dynamics were very interesting! The love interest, Lucan only shows up a few times, so if this is a slow burn, it's a really slow burn. Otherwise, it's a great story.

I read this book on Kindle Unlimited and liked it so much that when I returned it, I turned around and bought not only it but the next 2 books in the series. It is a great futuristic Urban fantasy. The parts where the Magic returned and destroyed everything that wasn't natural was not well thought out. The author listed several things as disappearing that are totally natural in their prime form and could be used with a few changes. However, if you ignore that fact, the story is actually charming and enjoyable. I loved the family dynamics in the story as well as the explanation of who they are. I know I will enjoy reading the next two books to find out how everything turns out for them. Well worth getting not only this book, but the next two also.

This first in series introduces us to a future where magic has returned, turning the world on its head.
Mackenzie Green is a human mage, working for a Hunter Guild as a “Lifer” - she only brings in people alive.
When a case goes a little haywire, she meets the dragon protector, a dragon shifter who is the enforcer for his tribe.
The meeting leads to him asking for her aid in finding a missing Dracos tribe child, a five year old girl, a request that places Kenzie in grave danger…

This is a highly creative world, with a rich cast of mythological beings: from Quinn the Gryphon, to Lucan the Dragon, wolves, wyverns, drakes, and gargoyles.
Then there are the human mages, Mackenzie and her family, who are just a little more than they seem.
The book has lots of magic and action in it, and a hint of romance- not with our main character but with one of the family. Kenzie is on a slow-burn track, and that’s not a bad thing because her past is affecting her in a big way.
It was an enjoyable read, with a enthralling plot and an imaginatively designed world, and I recommend it for urban fantasy lovers, especially those who have enjoyed authors like Ilona Andrews.

The story was good, different take on different shifters. There is also back story of her life that is a hook to an ongoing mystery. Definitely going to continue to read to see if the probable love interest pans out and if her past comes back to haunt her and the resolution.

I came back to add to this review. I’ve been graced to live in this world during the 3 book series. No spoilers. The story was as good as expected, I got to live in a well designed world with deep characters. The main character is strong and flawed and loving. Lots of fist pumping, YES! And some tears, when a story can catch you like this and illicit such feelings you know you‘ve found a great writer. So happy I stumbled onto this series. It’s on KU but even went back and purchased. This is one I’ll go back to read. Wish it were on audible, hint, hint???

I'm at 53% and I'm not sure I'll finish. It's an interesting story and the author is a good writer. I like the female MC. I already detest the male MC. He is supposed to be the most powerful Dragon Protector and he has the maturity of a badly behaved 13 year old boy. He lies, he bullies, he is irrational. Any relationship red flag you can think of, he is flying it proudly. Women do not need to see this lack of integrity and massive selfishness portrayed as a viable love interest. I'm not sure why the author wrote him this way. I'm sure at some point the female MC will "redeem" him. News flash....you can't change other people in real life like that. And, WHEN SOMEONE TELLS YOU WHO THEY ARE, BELIEVE THEM.

Ladies, we are better than this. We don't need to buy into this old trope of the insensitive, immature, arrogant male MC. I would like to finish this, but I'm not sure I can. It's a shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intriguing Urban Fantasy Series
Reviewed in Canada on April 19, 2023
The first book in this fantastic urban fantasy series has fast-paced action, mind boggling intrigue, and richly vast world-building that makes this story easy to get lost in. Paired with strong yet flawed characters and a heartwarming found family, this book tells a character-driven story full of mystery and grit. The hint of romance added an interesting angle that will only get deliciously complicated as the trilogy continues.

With the world and the way it runs now established, the authors have made it as easy as possible for readers to dive right into the second book in the series to find out what’s next for their characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fast paced, energy packed, fun read!
Reviewed in Australia on August 16, 2023
Green Gryphon initially shares some similarities to other great Urban Fantasy novels, but it doesn’t take long for this fast paced story to find a unique life of it’s own.

Wonderful and diverse characters, an interesting storyline, mysteries to be solved as the tale continues and a main character that is emotionally ripe for the best kinds of character growth.

A tale of found family, acceptance, trust, and good vs evil.... oh and dragons, did I mention the dragons!?!?

I hold no reservations in highly recommending this book to all lovers of Urban Fantasy.

This book will be enjoyed by readers who loved the Kate Daniels series.
