LOVED it! The people and the elephant stories had me in happy and sad tears the whole time. I have read a lot of books on elephants and I find that there is such a focus on the atrocities that after reading I am left in a profoundly depressed sadness and feeling guilty that I am part of the human race. I found with this book they were able to explain the horrors for these elephants but showed that there is plenty of love and kindness in this world. The Sheldrick family has given this world such a gift and shows mankind that change can be made with love, understanding, kindness, patience, persistence and working with the help of others.

We’re passionate supporters of Scheldrick’s work and even we didn’t know all the stories in the book. We have it out in our living area and guests comment on it and it’s been a great excuse to talk about elephants, Africa, and our love for these amazing creatures.

It is an amazing book with pictorial representation of the outstanding work done by David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in rescuing and rehabilitating hundreds of elephant orphans. Their stories are touching and will leave a deep impact on our thinking and way of life. A book worth buying and treasuring first lifetime.

This book captures the beauty, the love and the devotion that the keepers have for their charges. I hope some day to visit SWT, but, for now, I can read my book and look at the beautiful photographs!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is Fabulous
Reviewed in Canada on December 26, 2020
This book is a labour of love, unstinting in the beauty and abundance of its content. If you can afford it, don't think twice about the cost, it's worth every penny if you love wildlife and especially if you esteem elephants, or you want a gift for someone who does. It's big, heavy, extensive. Most piercing are the photographs and comments of the African people taking care of the elephants. The photography is terrific. You see a lot of African landscapes. These people are so well organized and expert in what they do, and the whole operation is infused with a beautiful spirit. I dearly hope it doesn't go out of print and people buy lots of copies. In addition to everything else, it's an incredible conservation chronicle

Anything about the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the elephants, other animals, the people who work for them is a great look at humans and the animal world, and a must read if you want to know where the good people in the world are :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful sadness
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 20, 2021
This is a beautiful book that pays homage to the workers behind the Sheldrick Trust. The sadness is the realisation that this should not even be the case that we have to celebrate these people as their reason for doing what they do is a result of something to horrific.
