Suburban New Jersey Detective Napoleon “Nap” Dumas hasn't been the same since senior year of high school, when his twin brother Leo and Leo’s girlfriend Diana were found dead on the railroad tracks—and Maura, the girl Nap considered the love of his life, broke up with him and disappeared without explanation. For fifteen years, Nap has been searching, both for Maura and for the real reason behind his brother's death. And now, it looks as though he may finally find what he's been looking for.
When Maura's fingerprints turn up in the rental car of a suspected murderer, Nap embarks on a quest for answers that only leads to more questions—about the woman he loved, about the childhood friends he thought he knew, about the abandoned military base near where he grew up, and mostly about Leo and Diana—whose deaths are darker and far more sinister than Nap ever dared imagine.

About the author
With over 80 million books in print worldwide, Harlan Coben is the #1 New York Times author of thirty five novels including WIN, THE BOY FROM THE WOODS, RUN AWAY, FOOL ME ONCE, TELL NO ONE and the renowned Myron Bolitar series. His books are published in 46 languages around the globe.
Harlan is the creator and executive producer of several Netflix television dramas including FOOL ME ONCE, STAY CLOSE, THE STRANGER, SAFE, THE FIVE, THE INNOCENT and THE WOODS. He is also the creator and executive producer of the Prime Video series Harlan Coben’s SHELTER, based on his young adult books featuring Mickey Bolitar. Harlan was the showrunner and executive producer for two French TV mini-series, UNE CHANCE DE TROP (NO SECOND CHANCE) and JUST UN REGARD (JUST ONE LOOK). KEINE ZWEIT CHANCE, also based on Harlan’s novel, aired in Germany on Sat1.
Harlan’s novel TELL NO ONE (NE LE DIS A PERSONNE) was turned into the renowned French film, directed by Guillaume Canet and starring Francois Cluzet. The movie was the top box office foreign-language film of the year in the USA, won the Lumiere (French Golden Globe) for best picture and was nominated for nine Cesars (French Oscar) and won four, including best actor, best director and best music.
Winner of the Edgar Award, Shamus Award and Anthony Award – the first author to win all three – international bestselling author Harlan Coben’s critically-acclaimed novels have been called “ingenious” (New York Times), “poignant and insightful” (Los Angeles Times), “consistently entertaining” (Houston Chronicle), “superb” (Chicago Tribune) and “must reading” (Philadelphia Inquirer).
In his first books, Coben immersed himself in the exploits of sports agent Myron Bolitar. Critics loved the series, saying, “You race to turn pages…both suspenseful and often surprisingly funny” (People). After seven books Coben wanted to try something different. “I came up with a great idea that simply would not work for Myron,” says Coben. The result was the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller TELL NO ONE, which became the most decorated thriller of the year. Two books later, Bookspan, recognizing Coben’s broad international appeal, named NO SECOND CHANCE its first ever International Book of the Month in 2003 – the Main Selection in 15 different countries.
Harlan was the first writer in more than a decade to be invited to write fiction for the NEW YORK TIMES op-ed page. His Father’s Day short story, THE KEY TO MY FATHER, appeared June 15, 2003. His essays and columns have appeared in many top publications including the New York Times, Parade Magazine and Bloomberg Views.
Harlan has received an eclectic variety of honors from all over the world. In Paris, he was awarded the prestigious Vermeil Medal of Honor for contributions to culture and society by the Mayor of Paris. He has won the El Premio del Novela Negra RBA in Spain, the Grand Prix de Lectrices in France, and the CWA/ITV3 Bestseller Dagger for favorite crime novelist in England. On the other end of the spectrum, Little League Baseball inducted Harlan into their Hall of Excellence in 2013, and Harlan is also a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame from his playing days at Amherst College.
Harlan was born in Newark, New Jersey. He still lives in New Jersey with his wife, Anne Armstrong-Coben MD, a pediatrician, and their four children.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2024Intense, intriguing and suspenseful story that held me captive with each turn of the page. Well written with insightful details revealed through the main character's internal dialogue. I look forward to reading another intriguing suspense story from Harlan Coben.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2024Napoleon Dumas, or Nap, tells his story in 1st person, and this reader was immediately caught up in the horrid tale of losing his twin brother, Leo, 15 years earlier. An accident, or a suicide? Nap, a cop in Westbridge, NJ, isn't sure. But a chapter earlier, a woman and man involved in a scam to catch cheating husbands in PA, turn out to be former schoolmates of Nap's. Something sinister covers everything. And I'm hooked. For about a third of the novel. Then it falls apart with a Conspiracy Club back in high school, a black ops site nearby, and some unpleasant characters. I expect those in Mr. Coben's novels, but in "Don't Let Go," they also become dull. And Nap loses a lot of his presence.
If you want good thrillers by this usually excellent author, read the Myron Bolitar series, or "Caught."
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2018"Don't Let Go", like all of Coben's books, is an easy, engaging read. For while his plots may be convoluted in the way most thriller plots are, they are also clear, with easily delineated story lines, and easy to track main characters. Coben never relies on the tricks of lesser authors- no characters with names so similar that they become hard to track, no backward-forward-backward time jumps, no chapters of texts/messages...just solid wordsmanship and an interesting, original plot.
Even given all of these plusses, I had to deduct one star for the large plot hole that is left unfilled. The main story line is wrapped up by the end of the book, but, the secondary plot is left unresolved, even if the big questions of "why" and "what" are resolved.
Still, overall a very enjoyable way to spend time reading, and I loved the cameo by Bolitar.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2024I could not turn the pages fast enough. Talk about plot twists. Honestly could not believe the ending.
I only gave it five stars because ten stars were not available.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2024Nap, a cop, lost his twin brother in a train accident 15 years ago and now people are dying and he suddenly thinks this is related to his brothers death. Nap is finding out that Leo's friends were part of the Conspiracy Club. Then Rex is shot. Hank the town " crazy " one is also found dead. Maura, Nap' s girlfriend from high school fingerprints are found at Rex's death site and she has been missing for15 years. Nap finds out that the old Nike site was a site for a black ops operation that tortured those who they thought were terrorists. The story takes a turn and it takes Nap until the end to figure out what happened that night15 years ago when Diana and Leo were found dead. It will keep you guessing till the end. Must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The character Nap!
I've been binge reading Harlan's books and the character Nap was someone I thoroughly enjoyed. The character development, the various flavours of his personality not to forget his sense of sarcasm and humour was super enjoyable. I really really really hope Harlan writes more books with Nap as the lead.
