Christopher Chance has made a living out of being a human target—a man hired to disguise himself as his client to invite would-be assassins to attempt his murder. He’s had a remarkable career until his latest case protecting Lex Luthor when things go sideways.
An assassination attempt Chance didn’t see coming leaves him vulnerable and left trying to solve his own murder, as he has 12 days to discover just who in the DC Universe hated Luthor enough to want him dead by slow-acting poison. And the prime suspects happen to be…the Justice League International?
Human Target is a hard-boiled, gritty story in the vein of classic detective noirs, told by bestselling and critically acclaimed creators Tom King and Greg Smallwood!
This volume collects Human Target #1-6, the first half of the murder mystery.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2024Never heard of The Human Target. Downloaded a sample and liked the artwork so checked out with Kindle Unlimited. Wish I’d bought the floppies; this series rocks!

Highly recommend for ages 12 and up.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2023Christopher Chance makes a living supplanting murder victims to draw out their would-be-murderers. Things go sideways when he accepts a job from Lex Luthor, and now he has 12 days to live. Will he find out who did this to him? These are the first six days.
This is an amazingly written, beautifully illustrated book. It's full of twists and intersects a down-on his-luck, hardboiled hero with some very powerful people in the DC universe.
It was a delight to read, and pure eye-candy.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2023Did you already know the Human Target? I didn't, I cannot say how different is from the original creation (probably that character liked cigarettes?) but so far it really feels like a protagonist straight from the fantasies from other times. The things he tells and says are quite interesting, as if you are sat in a bar and suddenly the most interesting man from 70's appears and tell you of more classy times. The art by Greg Smallwood is perfect, it is respectful of the mood of the story without looking outdated, in fact to my eyes is a bit halfway of noir and the Hanna Barbera old cartoons. Except in sci-fi stories I am not very fond of digital coloring, I'd much prefer the flat colors which in this case are very expressive. I got this volume in kindle but certainly I will get it in paper too. I think, and I could be mistaken, that this is one of those stories where the journey is more important than the destination. Christopher Chance has 12 days to discover his assassin from a bunch of powerful superheroes.
Is it perfect? maybe the only inconsistency I am aware of is female characters with the same personality and even physical appearance. They seem to be interpreted by the same woman except with a different wig. They act distant and all look towards men like children, which maybe is true, but looks strange when the men are superheroes.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2024Can't say enough about Tom King, enough people have said it and he's been one of my favorites of late and I absolutely LOVE the art in this. The story is also very, very good, I think. But it does take a bit to pick up, I think. But the art is second to none and at times looks so real it's amazing. Just a great first volume and can only hope the 2nd volume is too.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024Refreshing to be able to look at various DC heroes from a new perspective, and to follow someone with a very unconventional "power". The story is gripping so far and I can't wait to see whodunnit. The humor is also well-paced and placed appropriately, making it a witty but thoughtful read. I enjoy seeing stories where the protagonist is someone non-super rubbing elbows with all manner of heroes and villains (especially when the line between them can be blurred).
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2023Amazing. So intriguing. If you are not familiar with these characters like me, don't worry! Tom King does an amazing job introducing each one of them and defining exactly what their traits are. Love these mystery stories and this one knows how to capture you. The art is amazing and makes this book feel very unique. I can't wait to read book 2.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2024I love my Superman and Batman comics, but this is a great mystery that tricks you and keeps you thinking. Tom king is an amazing writer who I genuinely love to follow

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best in recent years
A classic whodunnit with a superhero twist, great writting and fantastic art, bringing back some old fan favorites (from the 1990's Justice League, with Fire, Ice, Booster and Beetle). Sure, the second volume is not as good, but this one is amazing and surely deserves a "chance" (sorry for the pun).

5.0 out of 5 stars Recomendable para fans de DC
