A hilarious, mostly-rhyming picture book about a banana and narrator who can't quite agree on what their book is about. Perfect for fans of Mo Willems' We Are in a Book and Adam Rex's Nothing Rhymes With Orange!

"Mo Willems fans will give this book one, two, three, four, five stars!" --
Parents

"Tillotson's rib-tickling debut is not to be missed!"--
Kirkus

When a narrator starts filling this story with fruit, Banana can’t wait to step into the spotlight. The book is called
Counting to Bananas, after all. But as more and more fruits (and non-fruits) are added to the story, Banana objects. When will it be time for bananas?!

With laugh-out-loud text from debut author Carrie Tillotson and brought to life by illustrator Estrela Lourenço this is the story of a banana and narrator who have very strong opinions about what should (and should not!) be in this book.

The perfect next read for fans of Jory John and Pete Oswald's The Bad Seed series, as well at Ryan T. Higgins'
Hey, Bruce!

Praise for Counting to Bananas:
"In the tradition of Mac Barnett’s
Count the Monkeys, Tillotson’s rib-tickling debut is not to be missed . . . Lourenço’s digitally created illustrations of cartoon fruit with faces and expressive animals are bright, dynamic, and foolish. Fruity fun for everyone." --Kirkus

About the Author

Before Carrie Tillotson started writing children’s books, she worked as a biostatistician. Her job involved counting a lot of numbers (but not many bananas). Counting to Bananas is her debut picture book. She lives in Oregon with her family, two dogs, and two chickens. Although bananas are not her favorite fruit, she loves a warm slice of banana bread. Estrela Lourenço is a Portuguese professional children’s book author and illustrator, and also a storyboard artist for animation. Vibrant and silly, this counting book is a winner!

Vibrant and silly, this counting book is a winner!
I will be the first to admit that I'm not generally a fan of counting books, having read HUNDREDS of them to my children when they were small. BUT...this book is truly charming and differs from other rhyming and counting books enough to hold even my interest! I love the mixture of fruit and animals and the fact that this book counts all the way up to 100 (which is great for those kids who are more advanced with their numbers. It also touches on skip counting (counting by 10's/20's etc) and the rhyming structure is great for helping kids anticipate the rhyme (great for early reading prep!). Estrela Lourenco's illustrations explode off the page, truly bringing this silly cast of characters to life. I highly recommend this book and will be adding it to my go-to list for children's gifts. I even caught my 6 yr old reading it to himself the morning after it arrived!

Our family purchased this book for our children to enjoy. Our 6 year old loves yellow more than any color in the world, so the bright fun drawings were completely captivating to her. The author is witty. The story is fun and silly. We just got this book today, but it is certain to be one of our all-time family favorites. I love how the banana really seems to have character! I love the narration. I love everything about this book. I hope the author and illustrator do more books together! Thank you for such a fabulous reading experience!!

This book has become a favorite read aloud for my granddaughter who is a book aficianado and has a fine tuned taste for humor. The personality of the banana is wonderful, and the clever use of numbers and fruit has us laughing every time. When she requests me to do something now she always ends with, "Don't make me count to bananas!" The illustrations and the subtle activity going on behind the scenes adds to the wonderful lyrical textures. Such a great book!

What a delightful and hilarious rhyming picture book! The author's creativity shows in the text. Even kids who don't like Bananas would at least like to draw one after this read. A wonderful book to introduce children to counting.

Silly book that made kids chuckle

Caution: This is not an ordinary counting book. It will make kids and adults laugh out loud. The banana wants to be a star of this counting fruit book, but then the narrator keeps adding animals, so the banana feels ‘bruised.’ The vibrant illustrations add fun and charming vibes to each page, making kids want to re-read and turn pages.

Too many confusing fruits. Trying to do too much in the book. Great idea though. Great illustrations.
