Deftly written...pleasantly illustrated...Granny Can't Remember Me is unreservedly recommended for family, daycare center, preschool, elementary school, and community library Social Issues picture book collections.- Midwest Book Review
"A wonderfully illustrated children's book about understanding Alzheimer's and other dementias that children and parents need to read... This story doesn't just focus on what Granny can't do--but what she can do... Public libraries would benefit from stocking this book on their shelves."- Readers' Favorites

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2018This is a sweet, gentle story that conveys a way to show your youngsters how to talk to Granny or Grandpa. It was written by a doctor who’s also a mom, who has experienced Alzheimer’s in her family.
Joey is six and he tells about his experiences with his Granny. There is a lock on her building so she’ll be safe, she talks about pets and experiences from long ago, and she doesn’t always remember who he is. His mom’s insights help him understand and accept Granny. And, he can still tell Granny his stories, listen to her stories, play cards with her, and most of all, he can love her.
Illustrator’s Deberdeev’s pictures use soft colors that are comforting and complement the text perfectly. The publisher suggests this softcover book is for ages 3-8. I’d suggest it could be helpful for all kids. Older kids may skim through it if you ask them to; yes, they may make noise about the age level, but they’ll grasp the essentials. On the last page the author provides a paragraph of tips for adults on how they might want to talk to someone with Alzheimer’s. Each family will work out their own path. This book is relevant and insightful.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2018Granny Can't Remember Me is a touching story of a young boy and his Granny. Although Granny has Alzheimer's Disease causing her to forgets things, it doesn't stop the boy and Granny from finding much common ground and having wonderful times together.
The story is told in a simple, straight-forward way that will be easy for children to grasp. While the suggested audience age level is 3-8 years old, the book will also touch the hearts of adults (as it did me!), especially those who have loved ones in their lives dealing with this disease.
The author provides background on Alzheimer's Disease, offers ways to lessen anxiety felt by people with Alzheimer's and includes online resources. A great resource and sweet read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2018This book gives an excellent introduction for children to what Alzheimer’s can do to a loved one. The illustrations are beautifully rendered. The writing clearly explains how a person with Alzeimer’s loses their memory due to the illness. Having had a parent that went through a form of Dementia, this book would be a wonderful way to explain what they experience.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2018An excellent book! The only book of its kind. We read it to our children, and a thoughtful family conversation ensued regarding their grandmother who has Alzheimer's disease. The author tells the story using a sweet, straightforward, sensitive, and light-hearted touch. The illustrations are endearing. Perfect for children.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2018This is a sweet book. Alzheimer's is a depressing disease but "Granny Can't Remember Me" is not a depressing story. It is hopeful and positive and filled with concrete examples of the love of a family who face reality and grow closer through a difficult time. In a gentle, non-preaching way, it will help any child, and also adult, how to relate and what to say (and not say) to a grandparent with dementia.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2018This book presents a thoughtful, caring way to discuss Alzheimer's with your children. The author relates Granny's difficulties in ways that the youngest of children can understand and has likely experienced or will experience with their grandparent. The notes at the end of the book also offer tips for adult readers on how to cope with a family member with this illness.

A child learns the significance of still loving, and being loved by, his grandmother, even though she doesn’t know who he is anymore. An important lesson that many adults also need to learn!
