About the Author

Michael Brumm is a writer/producer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He’s also been a consulting producer for At Home with Amy Sedaris and a four-time Emmy-winning writer for The Colbert Report. He is the coauthor of the children’s book His Royal Dogness and has written for various magazines and video games. Michael currently lives in New York City with his wife, Camille, and their two little cryptids, Henry and Bea.



Jeff Mack spent most of his childhood drawing monsters, making comic books, and building haunted houses in his basement. He has spent most of his adulthood doing the same things. Since 2003, he has written and illustrated a long list of award-winning picture books, chapter books, and early readers, including the Clueless McGee series; Good News, Bad News; Hush Little Polar Bear; Duck in the Fridge; and Frog and Fly. He has also illustrated many books for other authors, including James Howe’s Bunnicula and Friends series and Eve Bunting’s Hurry! Hurry! At home in Northampton, Massachusetts, he travels both nationally and internationally visiting schools and libraries to talk with kids about creating books.

Jeff Mack is the creator of more than 40 picture books, chapter books, and early readers including Hush Little Polar Bear, Duck in the Fridge, and the Clueless McGee series. He has also illustrated award winning picture books and chapter books such as Eve Bunting’s Hurry! Hurry! and James Howe’s Bunnicula and Friends.

Originally from Syracuse, NY, he grew up fascinated by monsters and robots. He built his own pinball machines from cardboard boxes, and spent hour upon hour practicing his drawing. In the second grade, he started writing and illustrating his own comic books, and he's been doing it ever since.

I bought this book after hearing the author being interviewed on MonsterTalk. I am always looking for books that will engage my imaginative, and minstee-loving son.

He actually looked distrustingly at it when I gave it to him. However he started reading and loved the story. Was completely hooked. He read the book twice through in one day and has read it at least half a dozen times since.

We both eagerly await the rest of the series paperback releases.

My children *both* love this book! My son likes the humor and my daughter likes the band of friends. It’s perfect for a reluctant reader, or an enthusiastic reader who has liked the Weird School series. We now give this book as part of our gift at kids’ birthdays. Highly recommend!!

'The Cryptid Club #1: Bigfoot Takes the Field' by Michael Brumm with art by Jeff Mack is a graphic novel for young readers about a mysterious siting at a school.

When there is rumors of a Bigfoot siting at her school, Lily decides to form a club with Henry and Oliver. They devise a way to sneak out of the house and investigate the school locker room. What they find could change the fate of their school football team.

I laughed pretty hard a few times while reading it. I think younger readers will really like this one. The art and characters are also fun.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from HarperColllins Children's Books and NetGalley. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
