This book is a great reference on the subject of technical analysis. It is well-written and contains charts with examples for each study. It does a good job of explaining each study that was prevalent when the book was written (2nd ed, 2001). Most of the illustrations and examples are from the 80's. The books strengths are that it explains the math behind each study and provides a spreadsheet of results. A companion electronic spreadsheet for each study is available for purchase. The only drawback to this book is that there are always new studies that you will not find in A-Z, but, particularly if you are new to technical analysis, I would recommend this book to help you understand the numbers and how each study is calculated. It is an excellent alphabetical study-by-study explanation for the beginning to intermediate level-trader or investor. Traders who follow fundamental analysis might also find this helpful if for no other reason than to understand the logic behind each study and how to interpret them on a chart.

This book is everything. It's a bible for technical analysis. Quick, cuts to the point. Short background, interpretation, example, chart, and calculation with everything explained. Would be great for algotraders as well. Best reference/learning book I have come across compared to everything else I've ever read.

As the title says, this covers technical analysis (the analysis of securities based on price patterns) from A to Z, that is to say all the various approaches are covered alphabetically. Everything is covered but not in extensive detail. Each approach is covered in terms of an overview of the approach, an interpretation of the approach, and an example (generally with suitable graphs). No attempt is made to inject the author's preferences or any statistical analysis of the effectiveness of the approach. As such, this is more of a dictionary than a book on investment advice. This is not to say that dictionaries are useless, they are very useful, but they are not the same as a book on how to write. This book will tell you what the particular system is, not whether it is any good. Also, there are many variations of most of the systems and many different values for the parameters used by the systems, so other references will be required if you actually want to apply any of these approaches. The reader should be forewarned, however, that Technical Analysis is only one approach to the market. Many believe that this approach is little more than tea leaf reading and they rely on the analysis of the fundamentals of the balance sheet of the company and its prospects for future growth.

I haven't read it yet - just downloaded. However it appears to be over 10 years old. Market characteristics change, and usefulness of indicators may be significantly reduced. I plan to use this for a reference only, not as a guide to strategies in themselves. I'll try to update this more after I've dug in on this book.

I'm currently reading "Technical Analysis, The Complete Resource for Financial Market Technicians, Second Edition" by Kirkpatrick and Dahlquist. This is much more current and gives the best insights into the history, reasoning, pros and cons of technical analysis. Their history and background on analysis seems quite comprehensive and up to date. On most books I've read, I'm left with questions "But what about..." or "What if?" etc. They've hit every one of my concerns on the head.

Extremely pleased with the purchase and reading experience. The book covers everything I know about and much more that I didn't. I was able to make oscillators, from the explanations given, on excel and was able to make the charts. The Chande Momentum Oscillator is an added, and needed, tool for my analysis for investment. I bought this book because it was the one called out in the Yahoo charts trying to explain the Stoch Oscillator; which, I wanted to understand, and now do.

Recently, I have been delving into the world of financial algorithms. I noticed that Matlab always referenced this book while defining various financial indicators, so I decided to buy the book.

While the book is a little old, it offers a great overview to the mathematics behind financial indicators. It is a great reference book for anyone who wants to know the mathematics behind financial indicators.

The author Steven B. Achelis put a massive amount of effort and information into this book, and structured every technical analysis study, tool, technique, etc. included into an encylopedia-like format from A to Z. For any trader interested in learning technical analysis beyond their favorite trading tools this IS the book to have. There is also an introductory chapter for traders that are entirely green in the field of technical analysis. Few brokers that I have traded with even have a fourth of the technical tools presented in this book. This indicated to me two things. First, that the majority of brokers do not provide their clients with sufficient technical tools to keep the favor of probability on their side. Second, this book has more information in it that any one broker has technical tools. Of course, after reading this text, I realized that I was being kept out of the loop at my previous broker and immediately switched to one offering the level of technical analysis presented in Achelis' book. I will keep my eye out for future printings of this book, as having a current edition in my personal library is a must.

This book is presented as a 2014 edition. When you buy the kindle version you get the 2001 version so you are often reading about companies that no longer exist in 2019. Not honest!

The book contains just a short description of a number of indicators, nothing more and nothing less. Seriously I don't understand why this book is a bestseller, he just give you basic informations. Overvalued and IMHO you can skip this book.
