"
Financially Capable offers a key to understanding financial access and attitudes that influence not only money-making abilities, but personal and financial value. Matt Paradise [expands] the concept of wealth and what makes it valuable. His book explores and explains financial literacy and links financial to life objectives, making it accessible to group discussion and non-financial readers. Its foundation idea of how mindsets, values, and behavior affect financial decision-making and capability is explored in chapters that provide strategies for building both financial security and a rich life.

As Paradise discusses budgeting, money management systems, and common sources of stress, readers receive the opportunity to relate their financial health to the emotional factors that influence decisions and perceptions. Another rare feature of this financial guide is that it acknowledges that disparate interests and ideas of life and wealth affect personal financial planning and health. Financially Capable promotes flexibility alongside knowledge of how money, credit, and financial institutions work. This will, ideally, encourage dialogues and discoveries in book club and group settings where financial issues are of interest. Libraries should recommend
Financially Capable to adult patrons [and] young adults."

I wish I had this book 20 years ago. As a child, I was fortunate to be taught basic financial literacy and responsibility. However, when I got my first full time job with benefits, I had to choose a 401k plan. I realized that had no idea where to begin. I checked a few books out of the library (this was before Google). When I started to read them, I found each book was either too basic (I knew how to budget and how to acquire and maintain a good credit score) or way over my head (I don’t have an MBA, nor am I trying to become a day trader). The tone was either patronizing or pretentious. When I read Matt’s book, first thought was that it is what I’ve been looking for all these years. He is able to talk about financial planning in a way that is simple to understand without being condescending. The book is also sprinkled with anecdotes and personal experiences to keep it interesting and entertaining. All in all, it is an enjoyable read and I plan to go back and re-read parts to take full advantage of Matt’s humble wisdom.

I teach financial professionals and am and always reading books that come out on the topic. I want to know if the book is something that would be good for financial clients, or for the professionals that work with them. I have been an Accredited Financial Counselor since 2008. I have read a lot of books. I think that Financially Capable provides the reader great information to help them make financial decisions that aligns to their values. It is easy to read and take in all the information that is important to you. I liked all the examples of real life situations that get in the way of making your finances a priority. Struggles happen, and this author knows how to be authentic without preaching. Great book!

Financially Capable is a book deadset on making sure you understand how personal finances work. From a social, cultural, and even personal perspective, this book offers both powerful and easy to comprehend insight into how we think about our finances, in an unapologetic yet personable format.

As a young and aspiring 20 year old beginning down the path of freelance employment, financial wisdom like that found in this book has become increasingly valuable to me by the day. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in growing their financial insight. This book has a clear value for readers of all backgrounds.

I thought this was a great book spanning lots of different fundamentals of financial literacy. A couple of my favorite parts were acknowledging and addressing the emotional or human component of budgeting. And second was the many resources provided at the end of each chapter, allowing me to run down all sorts of different topics and dig deeper into areas of interest.

Overall I think this is a great read for anyone looking to take control of their finances and start building a wealthy life. I'll definitely be recommending to my family and coworkers.

Matt Paradise has written a very useful and easily digestible guide for personal finance. It goes beyond the nuts and bolts and hard numbers to address the psychological aspects, which drive so much of our financial behavior. It can not only get you on the right track if you follow his concepts, but it can keep you there throughout your financial life. Think of it not as a one-and-done book to read and put aside, but as a reference to keep handy and reread sections of as necessary as you continue your financial journey.

This is a great book. Matt has a coherent and attention-grabbing writing style, that enables readers of all economic backgrounds to grow in financial literacy. We are biologically and chemically wired to make poor decisions with money, and this book identifies these flawed tendencies and lays out a guide for how to become in control of this crucial area of life. Matt Paradise did an excellent job with this book! His ability to provide great insight and information on some dense subject matter, while doing so in a personable and conversational manner was excellent. I enjoyed feeling like I got to know both him, and the topics he covers, well as I read along. Great anecdotes from his educational background and from his own life made the read flow a lot smoother. Nice work, Matt!

Purchased this book to gain yet another new perspective on personal finance. Still not quite finished with it but have been very happy with how easy to read it is! I greatly appreciate the author's ability to explain challenging financial concepts in simple terms. This is not my first foray into personal finance literature but if it was I would have found it extremely helpful!
