I Am Not Your Victim: Anatomy of Domestic Abuse, Second Edition, vividly details the evolution of domestic violence during the 16-year marriage of author Beth Sipe. Encouraged to publish her story by her therapist and co-author, Evelyn J. Hall, Beth relates the background and events leading up to and immediately following the tragic act of desperation that ended the life of her sadistic perpetrator. Beth′s subsequent mishandling by the police, the military, a mental health professional, and the welfare system illustrates how women like Beth face further revictimization and neglect by the very systems that should provide support and assistance. Insightful commentaries written by experts in the field follow Beth′s story and deepen readers’ understanding of the causes and process of spousal abuse, why battered women stay, and the dynamic consequences of domestic violence.

This updated edition includes new commentaries and an epilogue that tracks what happened to Beth in the years following the book’s publication.

Author Beth Sipe would love to hear your comments about the book. She is also available for speaking engagements and can be reached at bethsipe1@yahoo.com.

Beth Sipe's account of 17 years of mental, physical, and sexual abuse at the hand of her husband is raw and brutally honest, but this is a MUST READ for anyone working with at-risk populations. You will understand the survival tactics she used to save herself and her children. God bless you, Beth Sipes!

Such a touching story. Some parts of the book can be difficult to read but it is well worth the read.

This book was on my syllabus for a family violence class I was taking, but we never got to reading it. Decided to read it on my own and I am sure glad I did. Read half of it in one night. The author is very descriptive about the different types of abuse she endured for 16 years. Really goes into the trauma that is still present after escaping an abused.

This is the first reading on DV that really captures the entire picture-the personal endurance, the court systems, child custody, etc. Unfortunately, to understand DV at the level Beth Sipe shares it had to be lived. Thank you for giving a voice to the madness. For anyone in a DV situation this book will confirm you are not alone. For counselors, those that work with DV, and attorneys this book helps address and raises important questions as well as demonstrates the impact a professional can have on an individual life.
