The book was a hit and I liked it, too! I like that it isn't patronizingly preachy or authoritarian like so many books for kids these days. "Reggie" is a very anthropomorphic penguin who gets in cute jams but has a cute, quirky way of figuring out a way to come out on top, for example when he and his pals build a town for rolly pollies and the rolly pollies make a run for it so he moves the town to where they run. The author has a sense of character that comes through consistently, especially the hero Reggie, who's believable, likable, but with just enough pepper to be interesting and remarkably funny. The drawings are gentle yet forceful, colorful but not garish, and there's sly, visual humor that will draw chuckles from the grown-up reading the story aloud. It's a smart little book that, in spirit, reminds me of Winnie the Pooh.
