A Merry Little Meet Cute: A Novel (A Christmas Notch Book 1) Kindle Edition
Cowritten by #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Murphy and USA Today bestselling author Sierra Simone—a steamy plus-size holiday rom-com about an adult film star who is semi-accidentally cast as a lead in a family-friendly Christmas movie, and the former bad-boy pop star she falls in love with.
“The charming holiday romp you absolutely need in your life!” —Tessa Bailey
Bee Hobbes (aka Bianca Von Honey) has a successful career as a plus-size adult film star. With a huge following and two supportive moms, Bee couldn’t ask for more. But when Bee’s favorite producer casts her to star in a Christmas movie he’s making for the squeaky-clean Hope Channel, Bee’s career is about to take a more family-friendly direction.
Forced to keep her work as Bianca under wraps, Bee quickly learns this is a task a lot easier said than done. Though it all becomes worthwhile when she discovers her co-star is none other than childhood crush Nolan Shaw, an ex-boy band member in desperate need of career rehab. Nolan’s promised his bulldog manager to keep it zipped up on set, and he will if it means he’ll be able to provide a more stable living situation for his sister and mom.
But things heat up quickly in Christmas Notch, Vermont, when Nolan recognizes his new co-star from her ClosedDoors account (oh yeah, he’s a member). Now Bee and Nolan are sneaking off for quickies on set, keeping their new relationship a secret from the Hope Channel’s execs. Things only get trickier when the reporter who torpedoed Nolan’s singing career comes snooping around—and takes an instant interest in mysterious newcomer Bee.
And if Bee and Nolan can’t keep their off-camera romance behind the scenes, then this merry little meet cute might end up on the cutting room floor.

Meaning of Christmas

- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2023Teddy has a problem. He’s producing a movie for the pristine Hope Channel, a holiday movie that is being shot over Christmas. He has less than three weeks to complete filming in Christmas Notch, Vermont. And his leading actress has had to pull out of the film at the last minute. And when he was talking to his director Gretchen about a replacement, she noticed someone who caught her eye. Gretchen insisted on her, a voluptuous edgy actress she’d not seen in anything before. So he called up Bee Hobbes and asked her to star in the Hope Channel movie he was producing, Duke the Halls.
Technically, Bee worked for Teddy already. But she worked under for his Uncle Ray-Ray production company that also produced movies with a quick turnaround. But those were adult films, and she starred in them as Bianca von Honey. Now, she’s Bee Hobbes, a young actress with a squeaky clean reputation, or the whole project would be scrapped. And she really wanted to make this movie, especially since he costar is none other than Nolan Shaw.
Nolan Shaw was a member of the boy band INK, the bisexual bad boy who squandered a lot of his earnings before his sketchy manager took off with the rest. Now he’s living in Kansas City and working at a local theater. His mother struggles with her mental health, and he didn’t want to leave her alone with his younger sister Maddie, who is still in school, but filming Duke the Halls is his first step in rehabilitating his reputation and proving he can be a responsible performer. Plus, he could really use the money for his mother’s health care.
Nolan is committed to keeping his head down and his nose clean. But then he finds out that his costar, Bee Hobbes, is the same woman who haunts his fantasies as well as his phone. He is a subscriber to her ClosedDoors account, and meeting Bianca von Honey in person is almost enough for him to forget about why he’s there. Almost.
And then they kiss.
The first scene they film is toward the end of the movie, where the duke and the time-traveling runaway bride declare their love for each other and kiss. And the kiss is far hotter than either Bee or Nolan expects. Or maybe they did expect that, as Bee was a fan of Nolan back when he was in the boy band and she was in high school, and Nolan is a fan of Bianca.
Now all they have to do is keep filming this chaste film for a channel known for its modesty, with a producer who makes adult movies and a script with no ending (the screenwriter, Gretchen’s girlfriend, can’t seem to figure out that last line about what Christmas means), in a town that doubles as a set for holiday movies. Everything has to be by the book. Unsullied. Squeaky clean.
So no one can know when Bee and Nolan start hooking up in secret.
And that’s when Dominic Diamond, the reporter who destroyed Nolan’s career the first time, shows up to town.
Will Bee and Nolan be able to survive all the forces trying to keep them apart? Or will they find their own happily ever after after all?
A Merry Little Meet Cute is an extra spicy holiday rom com with lots of laughs and lots of very hot love scenes. The characters are likable, smart and compassionate and accepting. The juxtaposition of the adult film industry insiders working on the Hope Channel movie offers lots of room for hijinks, but there is also a respect for all lifestyles.
I listened to A Merry Little Meet Cute, with Bee’s chapters narrated by Joy Nash and Nolan’s chapters narrated by Sebastian York. I thought both of them were perfect in their roles, bringing these characters to life, with all their snark and intelligence. However, there were scenes that would make listening to this book awkward in public, so that’s something to keep in mind as you listen.
I loved A Merry Little Meet Cute. I thought it was engaging and charming, and it offers a different perspective on holiday shenanigans and those holiday movies on that greeting card channel. It is extra spicy, so prepare for those ghost pepper moments (or maybe I’m just used to vanilla rom coms). But this book is lots of fun and filled with life and laughter.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2022A Merry Little meet Cute is standalone rom-com-ish novel by authors Julie Murphy & Sierra Simon. Dual POV with a HEA.
Tropes:
✔️ small town
✔️ holiday romance
✔️ forbidden
✔️ workplace
✔️ forced proximity
Successful adult film star Bianca Von Honey is accidentally cast as the lead of a PG holiday movie and although she’s worried she has to keep her alter ego a secret for the sake of the Hope Channel’s squeaky-clean brand, she’s also super excited to play opposite her all-time teen crush.
Ex-boyband bad boy Nolan Shaw frantically needs to reboot his career in order to pay for his family’s bills. He promises his manager to behave as pure as snow, until he realizes his new leading lady is his dirty fantasy come to life.
Can they keep their insta-lust shenanigans a secret? More importantly, will Bee/Bianca’s very public career and true identity stay under wraps?
I picked this up because the cover is awesome and I love rom-coms. The blurb sounded very promising as supported by all the hype around this book. I was sadly disappointed though. I just couldn’t get into the story and kept putting it down.
My main disillusionment was with the falling in love part and lack of relationship development. Bee and Nolan were each other’s fantasy but for me, that doesn’t automatically convert into great chemistry. There’s attraction between them of course, but no tension nor anything else.
Sexy times abound with a surplus of holiday scented lube, but personally that doesn’t translate into falling in love or having a deep, meaningful connection that gives me the HEA satisfaction at the end.
Their two-weeks forced proximity allowed them to interact but it felt like their thoughts and preoccupation for the movie to succeed took precedence to actually getting to know each other.
There were other smaller issues. The premise of the story sounded fun, but it was predictably cringy. Nolan’s complicated family life was a bit too dramatic for a light rom-com read and I think lead to a misrepresentation of how real life mental health issues can be handled.
I loved the Christmas small town backdrop. I did smile and laugh. There were a bunch of funny situations and the side characters where hilarious. Come to think of it though… there was a lack of hetero representation. Most everyone on page was bi or gay. Did my hetero sensibilities get offended? Heck no, just an observation like the lack of a meet cute with a book titled “Merry little Meet Cute,” LOL.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2024I loved this book so much, it was exactly what I was looking for in my first holiday book of 2024. The audiobook narrators did a good job with their parts and I found myself laughing a lot at the storyline. The book moved along at a good pace and I was happy to see that it was part of a small series focused around different, but relevant couples in each book.

3.5/5 🌶️
This is so legitimately funny that I was laughing out loud multiple times. It’s a sexy holiday rom-com that takes on very serious themes like fat phobia and sex positivity. Bee was a true delight and the fact that they both were already in love with each other immediately was so cute.
Honestly, if it didn’t feel just a little bit long, this would have been five stars for me. It’s such a great book, but I felt like it should have been at least 25 pages less. There are moments that just felt like they were dragging a bit. For such a fun and funny book…it should not feel like that.

2.0 out of 5 stars Una decepción

2.0 out of 5 stars Mouais, ça commençait bien pourtant.
Un bon début mais on se lasse quand même très vite. Certains points sont très répétitifs... C'est un livre qui se veut inclusif et même très 'woke' à tel point que ça en devient absurde. L'histoire en ressort très stereotypée et au final très prévisible...

3.0 out of 5 stars Body and S*x Positivity
A body and sex positive festive romance set in a small wintery town.
Bee is looking to break out of the porn industry and Nolan is looking to rebuild him image, both are starring in a new Christmas film for the Hope Channel.
Sparks fly as Nolan recognises Bee from her porn / online presence and a secret affair begins.
This was fun and I loved the premise of this one and the hype was massive, for me though it was slightly too long and after the initial section found it dragged a bit.
Bee and Nolan were good characters, but despite their pasts I found them not very interesting.
I can see why people are loving it though and we should celebrate the positivity.
