Funny and Light
Intercepted was the perfect book to read over the weekend. It was fun, light and with plenty of hilarious situations. I would have finished it earlier but I have a new ten-week-old puppy. #NoTimeToReadAnymore or I should say: #NoTimeForAnythingAnyway, Intercepted has a funny heroine, Marlee Harper. Marlee is the girlfriend of Chris Alexander, a pro football player. Her only boyfriend has been Chris. She did have a one-night stand four years ago while they were on a break but she tries to avoid thinking about that night.Marlee loves marketing but it has been hard to do what she wants to do because she has dedicated herself to Chris. She even attends the Lady Mustangs meetings which usually only football players wives can attend and she's continuously attacked by Courtney, the QB's wife. Chris is nothing but self-involved and when she finds out he's cheating, she breaks their ten-year-old relationship and moves out.Things get heated when Gavin Pope joins the team as the new QB. He's good at his job, he's hot and it turns out he's Marlee's one night stand! At first, Marlee tries to avoid him because she's with Chris and later on because she doesn't want to date another football player. But, Gavin is unrelenting. He makes it impossible for Marlee not to try to be with him.As I said earlier, this book is quick, funny and light. It had the perfect combination to entertain you.I love how Marlee defended herself from the mean WAGs. I like how she did have a true friend within the meanies. I like how she went through life using hashtags. I like how her relationship developed with Gavin. Gavin was just perfect except when he did something which was completely out of character for him. I guess, we needed some drama and that was the only way to create it. Even with his misstep, I still ended up liking him.I'm looking forward to Fumbled, the next in this series.4/5 Fangs

i've now read 2 of alexa martin's books in this series. what makes her books so terrific are: 1] her primary character is the primary narrator of the story. 2] the stories do not seem contrived. they seem like they could realistically happen. and 3] ms martin develops "people" that come alive because they are multi-dimensional. we hear their inner thoughts and see their "real life" actions. they can be awkward or clever. my only suggestion would be to allow her male heroes to have an inner voice and see more of their activities. one flaw i saw in "intercepted" was the missing gap leading to marlee's relocation. it was like 1/2 a chapter was missing. as soon as i finished each book, i wanted to go back & reread them because i so enjoyed the characters ms. martin created. as a result of these two books, i am making a point to read more of her novels. THANK YOU for some really good reads!!! btw, i'm not just any reader: i did my graduate work in english literature.

Dear Alexa Martin, thank you sooooooo much for this book. It got me out of my book slump! I had been on the waiting list for this book on my library app for months, and when my turn would pop up I would always send it back. Either because I was in the middle of other things or cause I hadn't seen too many people talk about it ( I did look and saw that it is a little older, so maybe I just missed the hype). But after reading just okay books this month I thought "why not" especially because there was no wait on the other books in the series if I happened to love the first. I am so happy that I picked it up, this book hit me in the exact place that my heart needed. First of all I adore the characters, Marlee is amazing, Gavin was 100% book boyfriend material. There were times he seemed to be too perfect, but ultimately I loved him so much. I am a sucker for the side characters, especially when their are going to be the MC in their own stories in future books in the series, and these SC did not disappoint (TK is everything). I loved all of the friendships, and even liked the catty WAGS storyline. I adored both Gavin's relationship with his family (his sister was a little hard to get behind at first but I get it), and Marlee's. One thing that I really appreciated was Marlee's relationship with her dad. I'm sure this may just be a me thing, but I feel like often times when I read a book with a biracial MC, whos dad is black the dad is always portrayed as someone who left his family, or in jail or a bad dad in general. But Marlee's relationship with her dad was beautiful. I went into this book not knowing too much about it, but I loved the set up, I felt connected to the story the entire time. Intercepted checked all of my romance requirement boxes, it was sweet, steamy and swoony. What I didn't love... the hashtags. So many hashtags. But I get it, I mean she says it in the beginning of the book, that she loves hashtags, so I figured going in there was going to be a lot. It never took me out of the story and I did chuckle a few times with them, but I also could have done without them. This was a pretty quick read and I would 100% recommend it to everyone.

Well I can honestly say I enjoyed that way more than I thought I would. I've had this book on my radar for sometime now, yet never seemed to go for it.

While Marlee was quite funny, she was very annoying as well. It was unfair of her to compare her current NFL boyfriend (Mr. Quarterback extraordinaire Gavin Pope) to her ex boyfriend NFL (jerk Chris Alexander) . I did understand how she needed space to fully get over her last relationship and jumping into things so fast with Gavin didn't quite give her that, so I gave her some slack🤷🏾‍♀️😉.

Gavin Pope was super sweet, yet vaguely naive to a lot of things. This whole one word response thing he was doing was odd, yet I guess that's how he was able to get his point across without saying much🤷🏾‍♀️. I really liked how he loved Marlee, in spite of her need to push him away. Stand up guy.

That Madison and Courtney were a match made in demon filled hell. Just evil. I'm glad they both got (mostly) what they deserved😏.

I liked Naomi and Brynn. Now that I've started this series (I always try to finish one when I start), I hope Naomi stays around and keeps up her antics. I just liked Brynns vibe, so I'm interested in her story.

Overall, this was a good story. I could've done with out all the hastags, yet given when this book was written, I understand it, kind of 😬. Good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute football romance

Cute, flirty football rom-com. Marlee is fierce, independent, comfortable in her skin, and full of S-A-S-S while Gavin is the quarterback who is protective, warm, and looks great on the field in his tight pants! I loved INTERCEPTED for so many reasons; the Denver locale elevated its status for this former Denver-ite, the hashtags lent a cute and modern vibe and the nod to my generation – Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede and Michael Jackson and so, so much more! Would I ever want to live the football wife life? No way, not for me but I hold the women that do it in high regard (except for the catty, mean girls!).

I’m head over heels for this wave of amazingly talented contemporary romance authors – Alexa Martin, Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang. These books are my FIX! I’m tickled to know Martin will be back with Fumbled.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well written book but

The # were cumbersome after a while. The comedy was well timed, however there were a few missing things that can easily be fixed. The author had some good secondary characters but for instance we never got to “meet” her mother in the same way that we met her dad. Same thing, she dated Gavin for months but they never go for dinner at her parents (whilst she’s supposed to be super close to them) or have a couple outing with Naomi and Dre.
The heroine was funny but so self absorbed at times it really wasn’t cute and it made it difficult to really like her. I guess she was just immature and scared from her previous relationship. For instance, the whole ice skating incident was her fault. With only 2 matches before the playoffs and given how important Gavin was to the team, he shouldn’t have been anywhere near an ice ring. If she really wanted them to have a break, a walk should have done it. Again, leaving in a huff without saying thank you for being home and preventing an even worse attack was childish. Another example of her lack of awareness, being on public transport alone, on match day when tempers are running high. Then she was quite happy for him to come and fight her battles. And of course the mother of all was her over the top reaction to him going to NY. Yes he should have told her and how he tried to fix it was crazy however any sane person could understand why he took it. It was his dream, a football career is short and yes she had a job(nothing that wasn’t portable) and her family but they could have worked something out. Instead she took it as a betrayal (what?) and ended up with a job in NY 4 months later. Had he stayed would she have turned the opportunity down? Completely immature. Shame about the heroine and some missing elements like a proper PR campaign because i really wanted to a give higher mark because of the writing. Solid first effort.
