From the #1 New York Times bestselling author The Women, a moving, powerful novel about the fragile threads that bind together our lives and the astonishing potential of second chances

“A tender, beautifully told story of emotional growth, forgiveness [and] the possibility of miracles.”—
Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Madelaine Hillyard is a world-famous heart surgeon at the top of her game. Her personal life is far less successful. A loving but overworked single mom, she is constantly at odds with her teenage daughter. At sixteen, Lina is confused, angry, and fast becoming a stranger to her mother—a rebel desperate to find the father who walked away before she was born. Complicating matters for Madelaine are the vastly different DeMarco brothers: While priest Francis DeMarco is always ready to lend a helping hand, his brother, Angel, long ago took on the role of bad boy. Years earlier Angel abandoned Madelaine—and fatherhood—to go in search of fame and fortune. His departure left Madelaine devastated, but now he reappears and seeks help from the very people he betrayed—as a patient in dire need.

Yes, at times it was a little hokey and at times you knew what was coming but it brought tears to my eyes and was at times brilliant. A love story wrapped in four people’s lives intertwined over the years. A handsome, selfish movie star, a mom and cardiologist, a rebellious teenage girl all bound together by a priest with human frailty. Written with great thought of character and accurate medical details. Fabulous book you won’t want to stop reading.

This has been such a delightful story that is full of heartache, romance, and the joy of a person committed to changing his life for the better. It also gives us a good education about heart transplants and the importance of living well while paying attention to clean living. A remarkable story that could leave out some of the language.

What can i say: it was a roller-coaster of emotions. The 4 main characters of this book, Madelaine, Angel, their daughter Angelina (Lina) and his brother Francis were pictured in such deep emotional way that we could feel each one of their feelings, the hurt, the love, the hope... Francis, a catholic priest and Madelaine's best friend and Lina's surrogate daddy has always been secretly in love with Madelaine. He has been her safe harbor for 16 yes. Angel, the Hollywood bad boy who turned his back on Mad when she told him she was pregnant has just suffered his third severe heart attack and his life is ending, unless his doctors find him a perfect match for a heart transplant. And then, an accident, a brain dead patient and a miracle. It's breathtakingly written and i would highly recommend.
