“The suspense of the story, aided by sly hints from the author, and the atmosphere of a dark, claustrophobic tomb work together to create a scary story. The characters’ fear invites the reader into the world to experience the fright themselves.”
Booklist Starred Review

Deep inside the tomb exists a hidden world of wonder and terror.

In 1935, British archaeologists vanished inside an Egyptian cave. A year later, one man returned covered in mysterious scars.

Egyptologist Imogen Riley desperately wants to know what happened to the ill-fated expedition led by her grandfather. On a quest for answers, she joins a team of archeologists and soldiers in Egypt. Inside a mountain tomb, they’ve found a technologically advanced relic and a maze of tunnels. Dr. Nathan Trummel believes this tomb leads to the most guarded secrets of the pharaohs. When the explorers venture deep into the caves, they discover a hidden world of wonder and terror.

Review

"Nicely paced and laced with palpable tension [...] Horror fans will be pleased as the terrors of the tomb force each character to confront a past trauma"

“The suspense of the story, aided by sly hints from the author, and the atmosphere of a dark, claustrophobic tomb work together to create a scary story. The characters’ fear invites the reader into the world to experience the fright themselves.”

“Moreland gives us a unique vision of Egyptian deities in “Tomb of Gods” and the novel is a fun read with a strong plot yet easily accessible story. A definite recommendation for fans of horror in general but particularly for those who like stories about Egypt and its mythology.”

“The novel will scare you, confound you, and force you to think, and that, readers, is the mark of an excellent read.”

"Tomb of Gods completely knocked me out from beginning to end, with some of the sequences so unrelentingly fast moving it was impossible to put down." -- Tony’s Top 10 Horror Novels of 2020, HorrorDNA.com

“What starts out as a good adventure story, grows into so much more as it moves along. Tomb of Gods is fantastically imaginative, darkly fun, and horrifically astounding; I expect this book to make my Top 10 Reads of 2020.” -- Dead Head Reviews

“Tomb of Gods was a thrilling and chilling read, cleverly weaving together history with mythology, with the creeping presence of horror underneath.” -- Beneath a Thousand Skies

“I just wanted to read this book and fall in love, all over again, with Egypt and the gods… I definitely wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone, lover of Ancient Egypt or not.” -- The Magic of Worlds Blog

“It is obvious how much research the author has done as he weaves the beautiful scenery, and traditions into this horror story.” -- The Divine Writes Blog

“The horror was chilling, and I had a hard time putting the book down once I started it. Brian Moreland puts a great deal of care into his characters and his internal mythology, and he can write a spine-tingling story.” -- We Who Walk Here, Walk Alone Blog

“This is a book that actually made me feel the pain of the characters, the fear was visceral. Several times, I had to put the book down because it was so well written." -- Book Bustle Blog

“With a mixture of adventure, tense claustrophobic horror, horrifying monsters, an engaging cast of characters and a slightly different portrayal of the Egyptian pantheon, we are drawn deep into the “Tomb of Gods” and we might not leave.” -- Books I Like Blog

“This is not a book to read with the lights off, but it is absolutely a book to read!” -- Reading Reality Blog

"Horror fiction and horror films abound with stories of the “you-don’t-want-to-go there” and while Tomb of Gods can be filed within this sub-genre, Moreland has come up with something different within that trope by combining Egyptian mythology (which he clearly knows a lot about) with great scene-setting, claustrophobic horror, uncovering the unknown, thrills and action and maybe a smattering of romance" -- Concatenation

Review

“Moreland combines the best of what I love about horror fiction, impeccable prose, characters with a life-like depth, fantastic monsters and a palpable sense of dread that seemingly lunges off the pages and grabs you by the throat.” ―Peter Schwotzer, Famous Monsters of Filmland

“Moreland has a fluid writing style that appears to be getting stronger with each new release. His attention to atmospheric details quickly draws the reader into the storyline, creating a vivid background that often acts as a “character” itself. Personally, I feel that this is one of his greatest strengths, along with his unique, imaginative plot-lines.”―Horror After Dark

"Brian Moreland writes a blend of survival horror and occult mystery that I find impossible to resist. His writing is clean, precise, and, best of all, compulsively readable. I know, when I've got one of his books in my hands, that I'm going to be lost to the world for hours on end. He's just that good." ― Joe McKinney, author of Dead City and Flesh Eaters

“Brian Moreland writes with one eye on characterization and the other on scaring the life out of you.” ― Maynard Sims, author of Stronghold and The Eighth Witch

“Brian Moreland is my new favorite author … He writes powerfully complex characters. He packs so much characterization in one hundred and sixty pages. From the prelude to the epilogue, I was hooked and reading at a break neck pace. I read this captivating story in one gulp … Brian Moreland’s concise writing style makes for an enjoyable reading experience.” ―Cedar Hollow Horror Reviews

“Combining Masonic history, mysticism, and Nordic rune-lore, [Shadows in the Mist], Moreland’s tale of a world at war is equal parts horror story and spine-jangling thriller. An adventure not to be missed!”―James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of Map of Bones and Black Order

“Brian Moreland’s fiction is taut and spellbinding, often blending varied themes to form a dark genre very much his own. From his WWII occult thriller Shadows in the Mist, to the haunting chiller The Devil’s Woods, Brian’s work is at once versatile, original, and deeply engaging.” ―Greg F. Gifune, author of The Bleeding Season

"In Dead of Winter, Brian Moreland showed why he's one of the strongest new forces in horror fiction. In The Devil's Woods, he proves he's as versatile as he is talented. The Devil's Woods is fantastic--a terrifying and emotionally-involving read from cover to cover." ―Jonathan Janz, author of The Nightmare Girl and Wolf Land

“Dead of Winter by Brian Moreland is an exceptionally well crafted horror novel that tells a gripping story of dark religious doings, a horrific serial killer, and a sympathetic Inspector, in a dark and fascinating historical setting of 19th century Canada. The atmospherics are outstanding and the story offers plenty of surprises right up to its shocking and violent conclusion. Highly recommended.” ―Douglas Preston, co-author of The Monster of Florence and Cold Vengeance.

"Dead of Winter is a thrilling, wholly-engrossing read that masterfully crosses multiple genres and leaves the reader breathless. Moreland weaves one hell of a history lesson, rich with brilliant characters and incredible plot twists. Highly recommended!" ―Brian Keene, best-selling author of The Last Zombie and Ghoul

"With Dead of Winter, Brian Moreland breathes disturbing new life into an ancient horror legend. Crisp dialogue, riveting action, and a skin-on-your-teeth pace. Wow!" ―Jonathan Maberry, New York Bestselling author of Patient Zero and Dead of Night
“For horror fans wanting a healthy dose of the small-town stuff a la Stephen King.”―Hellnotes

“After I finished reading Blood Sacrifices, I couldn’t stop thinking about how great these stories were. This was my first experience reading Moreland’s work and I was blown away by his storytelling abilities. Every novella featured in this collection displays traits of everything I love about the horror genre and is packed with action. I also loved the fact that even when I thought I knew where the stories were going, there were no shortage of surprises lurking just around the corner. Moreland also conjures up some of the most frightening antagonists/monsters I have read in quite some time . . .”―The Horror Bookshelf

"Brian Moreland's mixture of crime, drama, suspense, horror, the supernatural, the occult, and history always makes his stories jump off the page as if they should be on the big screen."―Oh for the Hook of a Book

"A frightening and chilly romp through a winter wasteland, Dead of Winter will freeze your soul! Sharply written and scary as hell, this one is a must-read for all horror fans."―Ronald Malfi, author of Snow and Floating Staircase

Moreland never disappoints. TOMB OF GODS is a non-stop trip through an underworld of Gods and Demons. You will be judged!I loved these characters, even the ones we are supposed to hate. Moreland pulls you into this world beyond our own and gives you terror along with heart and soul. Wil you come out with yours? Stand before Osiris and let him weigh your sins.I give TOMB OF GODS 4 stars!

Thoroughly enjoyed this epic journey. Such a pleasure to read a book that doesn't have a huge number of characters to try and remember and then constantly jump back and forth between them in the narrative.

Glad to see a different slant on ancient Egyptian mythology! The characters were well rounded out and the action kept the plot moving. Needed more ancient Egypt and ruins!

The writing was descriptive, there were a few moments when reading it made me feel claustrophobic from the scene building. The author worked too hard to try and fit too many Egyptian myths into the story though. It did have some truly horrific moments though and developed some empathy for some of the characters

TOMB OF THE GODS by Brian Moreland is my new favorite by this author. The story is a terrifying mix of mythology, religion, horror and science fiction. All of the characters have dark backstories which come into play as the group attempts to retrace Harlan's steps, using his journal as a guide. The variety of creatures is impressive. I love every aspect of this story, particularly the imagery towards the end.

I highly recommend this story to all readers who enjoy action-thrillers such as Stargate and Anaconda.

For a good book deceptively opens, As a riveter but it bogs down in the middle, The end is kind of murky and details and makes you the reader kind of assumed certain things that may or may not be true, wish there was a second book not sure if one exists

This was such a great ride! At times, I felt the same adventurous rush that movies like "The Mummy" gave me. Who hasn't, especially as a child, dreamed of exploring pyramids and tombs in some exotic place in the desert? As you read further the story takes a more sinister turn and almost gives you a "Dante's Inferno" feel of traveling through the many layers of hell in hopes of reaching understanding and ascending. I read a lot of horror so it sometimes takes a lot to actually scare me, but there were certainly parts that made me recoil and need to take a moment. A really great read.

Brian Moreland bring to life, in brilliant detail, the ancient Egyptian Duat. It’s beauty, magic and mystery are described in often horrific detail. The story, set during the golden age of Egyptian archeology is engrossing and fascinating. A fine blend of horror and myth. You won’t be able to put it down.

I love reading about ancient Egypt with its multitude of Gods and Pharoahs, and this book did not disappoint.
Follow the adventures of a ruthless , greedy explorer, a camera man who is there to record every moment of history in the making , a girl whose Grandfather was driven mad by his findings in the pyramid, and a gang of ruthless mercenaries are there as protection for the expedition. There is also a blind psychic, to cover all base

I loved this story and was upset when it ended abruptly, leaving me desperate to read the next book in the series. Well worth the read.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 6, 2021
Probably one of the most expensive kindle books I've purchased for a while. It seems that the author really struggled to put flesh on the bones of some great ideas. Charactors being made to face their past mistakes/crimes is one thing but some charactors faced the same thing time and again. Eventually the story just ran out of steam. I dont give this review lightly and I realise that opinions are always subjective but sadly, in this case my opinion is that I would not recommend this book.
