Findependence Day presents personal finance in a "can't put down" story format easily digested by young adults entering the workforce and the world of money. Because money problems often cause marital breakups, it focuses on the financial journey of a young couple who experience the usual ups and downs of job loss, buying homes, raising children, investing and pensions, starting businesses, coping with stock market volatility, and more.

The secrets of financial independence are critical wherever you are in the financial life cycle:

- Newlyweds embarking on family formation will discover the importance of financial planning.

- Debt-plagued graduates will be motivated to embrace "guerrilla frugality."

- Home-owners will learn the foundation of financial independence is a paid-for home.

- Those in their first jobs will embrace employer 401(k) plans, traditional IRAs, and Roth IRAs.

- New parents will discover the need for life insurance and saving for children's education.

- Mid-life investors will learn how to cut costs in their portfolios while benefiting from the expertise of financial planners.

- Those near retirement will learn about advanced concepts like annuities and Asset Dedication.

How to leave full-time employment for a "Work Optional" lifestyle.

The narrative style of this book makes financial planning a journey, which is what it should be. Witness the progress of a young couple as they encounter nearly every financial folly. This is a fun and engaging book for people who hate money books.

Given that I am not financially savvy, I found Chevreau's book both very informative and entertaining. He has a great way of intertwining a fun story with invaluable financial information. If you invite me to a financial seminar, I am most unlikely to go but who needs to when so much information which is so needed now, is right there in Findependence? As well, as an avid bridge teacher, author and founder of the largest online bridge school [...], I love the character who seems to be able to manage a triple squeeze without batting an eyelash. And there is even a love story for the faint of heart. Who could ask for more? Bravo!

Jon has worked as the personal finance columnist for the Financial Post since 1996.

I was pleasantly surprised by the compelling story based on a young couple's debt ridden journey towards financial independence, personal happiness and peace of mind.
