Andrea Vernon and the Superhero-Industrial Complex (Andrea Vernon, 2) Audio CD – MP3 Audio, December 31, 2019

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 95 ratings

Back by popular demand! The further, fearsome, and funny adventures of Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection - written by Alexander C. Kane and performed by Bahni Turpin, 2018 Audie Award winner for Best Female Narrator.

More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she's getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8' 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More.

Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her. Especially since Congress is determined to bring the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection and all of “Big Supe” under government control.

Even with mankind's greatest heroes fighting back, will it fall on Andrea to save the day - again?

Pun intended. This was a very fun read. Ties so well from the first and am very excited for the third!

Never More would say your deepest regret is not having read this book if you have not already read this book.

She would then say that your next deepest regret is not reading the far more amazing first book in this series before reading this book, again provided you have not read this book.

Had you read this book, and the first book, she would tell you that your deepest regret is spending 6 seconds reading my review.

Dastardly!

My review seems a bit negative, but it's just because I loved the 1st book so much! Like "listened to it 5 times" loved it.

The follow-up to The Corporation for Ultrahuman Protection raises the stakes and builds well upon the foundation established in the first book. This one is about 4 hours longer than the first one, and it drags in places. I think there is a good hour that could be cut out without losing anything. The voice work isn't as great as in the first book, Ms. Oh is lacking some of her pep, Nevermore's voice is kind of grating, and some of the voices are recycled. In Bahni Turpin's defense, there are a lot of characters and there are only so many voices one person can do. This story doesn't get wrapped up in a nice little bow like the first one, and leaves us impatiently waiting for the conclusion (much like Empire Strikes Back).

As I write this in September of 2020, I did want to point out something that hurt my enjoyment of the book. This book follows up on the politics of superhero corps we started with in the first book. If the first book is "The Office with superheroes" then this book is "The West Wing with superheroes" and there are a lot of parallels to current United States politics. If you are very disheartened by current politics, this book will give you those same feelings about Andrea's world.

But you should still get this book. Ms. Oh says if you don't, you'll be sadder than a Christmas tree in January!

I am not a fan of sci fi. Period. But somehow I stumbled onto this series and it is such fun, so funny, and so engrossing that I hope there are a million more
books coming. The writer’s imagination is brilliant. If you want a fun, refreshing read, pick this series. Hopefully movie rights will be picked up…..

I love the Andrea Vernon books. This one was especially fun as it spoofed the last five years of the insanity that we've dealt with during our unfortunate period of Idiocracy (which lives on thanks to the morbidly obtuse). I look forward to the next installment.

Love the characters. Very funny, good call backs to the first book but not necessary to have read it in order to follow. The ending! Can't wait until the next one

This series is amazing, I’m astounded by Alex Kane’s cleverness, and many times I have caught myself laughing like a loon by myself. My absolute favorite series

I always love a new Andrea Vernon novel and I can't wait for the next one. I'd love to know how Alexander comes up with all the hero and villain names.
