If you were asked to put your name to a novel you didn’t write, would you?Meet Emma Fern, celebrated author of a literary best-seller, adored by legions of fans everywhere, shortlisted for the prestigious Poulton Prize. But it wasn’t always this way, a year earlier you would have met Emma Fern, unremarkable beige wife, running a small housewares store, thinking of starting a family. And maybe it wasn’t the perfect life, but to Emma, it was pretty close. But when Emma meets Beatrice, the doyenne of crime fiction and Emma’s favorite writer, life suddenly becomes a lot more exciting. Then Beatrice asks for a favor. She wants to write in a different genre, something more literary, but not under her own name. She needs someone to be ‘the author’ of her yet to be published novel. Would Emma be willing? It sounds like fun, and for a while it is, until Emma makes a shocking discovery. Then it’s not fun anymore. It’s deadly. If you love psychological thrillers, then you don’t want to miss this gripping read that will keep you guessing until the very last page.

Natalie Barelli can usually be found reading a book, and that book will more likely than not be a psychological thriller. When not absorbed in the latest gripping page-turner, Natalie loves cooking, enjoys riding her Vespa around town and otherwise spends far too much time at the computer. Loved this book and went on to read 3 mire of her books. The tone is lively and the characters are so relatable. The plot is like a cocktail, shaken not stirred and just twisted enough to surprise the reader!

The plot was very different and very interesting. The way the book was put together was also very interesting. The book started with a flashboard, and then settled back to start the story from the beginning. And all the way through I was thinking that the flash forward told me that she got out of the mess she was in but how? My only problem with the book was that it drug a few times.

This book is so full of so many surprising twists and turns. A great read that is hard to put down

Another great work. Is Emma a victim or the villain? I had a hard time deciding. Rooting for her, but at the same time despising her! Anxiety inducing trip, this one was!

This is a very different book. The storyline takes a young shop owner and shows her evolution to whom she becomes in the end. It's a very remarkable transformation.

This debut novel was really well done. In fact, I found it difficult to believe that this WAS a debut novel...strong writing, fascinating plot, great pacing.

As I read it, at first I thought the premise was a bit far fetched, but I came to realize that I could surely picture some ardent fan being willing to go along with their idol's plot. Just because I wouldn't do it doesn't mean that it could not happen. And I'm not saying I wouldn't do it because I'm better than Emma...I wouldn't do it because there is no way I could begin to pull off what she did!

There is a thin line between ardent fan and conspirator. And between conspirator and criminal.

My only fault in the book was that I felt the last few chapters were a little too frantic at times.

I hope this author has a new book out soon. I'd give this one a 4.5 stars and recommend it as a fascinating character study. And, because her writing was so real, I wondered that since this was her debut novel if she hadn't met with a favorite author of hers........and.........you'll see what I mean when you read the book!

As if I were watching an old Bette Davis/Joan Crawford movie … each page is filled with witty little dialogue between all the characters as they all go about plotting each others demise !!!! With quite the twist at the end !!!! BRAVO

Emma Fern owned and ran an antique store, and the day Beatrice Johnson Green walked in to purchase an item as a gift for her mother-in-law was the day Emma’s life changed. Beatrice was a well-known author; plus she was also Emma’s favourite author, so she was completely awestruck that Beatrice was in her shop, let alone speaking to her. When Beatrice invited Emma out to lunch a few days later, Emma was at the stage of being willing to do anything that Beatrice asked.

With Emma’s friendship with Beatrice complete, she told her things she hadn’t even told Jim, her husband. She told Beatrice she’d written a novel – but when Beatrice asked Emma to do her a special favour, Emma initially refused. When she finally agreed to Beatrice’s request, once again, life changed for Emma. What would be the outcome of the deceit and lies that came from that one simple request?

Until I Met Her is the debut novel, and #1 in the Emma Fern series for Aussie author Natalie Barelli, and although we know who the murderer is at the beginning of the novel, we have no idea of the why or how. The twists, secrets and devious moves form a clever plot which Barelli has handled well. The characters aren’t particularly likeable – but that’s part of the attraction. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aa addictively good read!

A fantastic read from start to finish. The plot is fast paced and the characters realistic and well developed. The author takes you through Emma's first meeting with her idol, her fascination with her, her copy cat styling, to their pact and ultimate betrayal. I couldn't read this fast enough, but at the same time I didn't want it to end! I'm moving straight on to book number 2 in the series. Highly recommended
