When five middle-aged girlfriends trade in carpools and casseroles for microphones and music halls, look out!

Hayley Swift, a country music diva who has slipped out of the limelight, gets more attention when she's mistaken for Taylor Swift's mom than for her former glory days. When she's invited to perform at her 35th high school reunion, a bus accident puts her back-up singers in a hospital, Hayley begs her long-gone-domestic quartet from high school to join her onstage for the gig. They're such a hit that she invites the women to fill in on a low-budget tour for a couple of weeks while her singers recover. Thrilled at the chance to flee routine for a dream deferred for decades, the friends readily accept.Nefarious flirtations, indiscriminate mood swings, equipment malfunctions, and a few nasty cat-fights combine to wreak havoc on the Retro Rodeo tour, but it's a crazed stalker, an overzealous fan, and an unexpected pregnancy that ultimately derail the road trip. In the midst of the mayhem, friendships and fantasies are redefined as the women come together to face one's debilitating illness. True love emerges from the tragedy, though, and the friends discover new strengths and aspirations as this adventure ends and new ones begin.

Hayley and the Hotflashes will make you laugh out loud and indulge in your favorite "what if" fantasies as they deal with sickness, stage fright, attitudes, egos, temptations, testosterone, and more.

Review

"This story exudes human interest. The characters are people you may know. Ferrer has written a novel worth reading. It is funny. It is wise. In the end, the questions it raises and answers will make you stop and think."

-Review by Michael Escoubas for Quill & Parchment

Jayne Jaudon Ferrer has been passionate about words for as long as she can remember--and she credits Lola Dietz, the first librarian she ever knew--for that wonderful gift. "My hometown church was blessed to have an exceptional library and a full-time librarian," the author recalls. "Mrs. Dietz introduced me to A Child's Garden of Verses, to Beverly Cleary, to Maj Lindman, and taught me the joy of reading and the satisfaction of a good story when I was still a toddler." Ferrer also credits several teachers and mentors who recognized and encouraged her gift with words for leading her to a career in writing. "I grew up in a small town where everyone knew everybody. You couldn't get away with a thing, of course, but the affection and interest and support was amazing. I HAD to be successful; I couldn't let those people down!"

Working initially as an advertising copywriter, then as a freelance journalist, Ferrer began writing books after her first child was born. Her collections of poetry about the bliss and bedlam of motherhood have been published in multiple editions, and Kirkus Reviews calls her nonfiction book, The Art of Stone Skipping and Other Fun Old-Time Games, "a wonderful resource."

Jayne's newest book is a novel, Hayley and the Hot Flashes. The story of a middle-aged country music diva reconnecting with her four best friends from high school, it delivers a powerful message about the value of relationships, the importance of going after your dreams, and the fact that being over 40 means you're probably a lot smarter than you used to be.

While more fiction projects are in the works, Ferrer's enthusiasm for poetry will never wane. "Too many people write it off as boring because some teacher crammed too much Wordsworth and Yeats down their throat and never told them about Ogden Nash or Edgar Guest."

I enjoyed reading this book, the work of one of my favorite writers and poets, Jayne Ferrer. The BEST part of the book was Jayne's unrelenting pursuit of word pictures. The author transported me back to a gentler time in small town USA, the South in particular. This book was awash in Wauchula, the author's small hometown. It captured the essence of all the other moss-draped, single Stop sign towns which were the bedrock of the past. I reflected upon my own summers spent in a small town that was just a blip on a Georgia road. Jayne's words brought back memories...sweet memories...sweet tea sipping times...blackeyed pea shelling times...front porch swing evenings...bare feet stained red by clay times.
In today's world, sweet memories are a treasure! Thank you, Jayne! KBC

This book had me from the beginning and as each character was introduced, I found myself jumping on board to follow their journeys as well as the main character. The author takes you on a fun experience that makes you feel like you are "on the bus" with the gang!! Sit back, get a cup of coffee and settle in for the ride!!

What a wonderful book about friendship! You really become invested in the characters and enjoy the ride with them. I’m suggesting to my girlfriends to read as well!!! ❤️

A page turner full of plot twists, clever dialog, action, friendship, love, and heartache told with tenderness and humor. While centered on the crumbling career of singer, Hayley Swift, readers will find themselves rooting for the many characters in this story as they experience midlife changes and life's uncertainties.
