"There were so many things flowing through my mind as I finished this story that I sat very still with my thoughts for the longest time contemplating what I just read.  Indeed, I had to settle with the story a bit before I could even attempt to do it justice with a review. One thing is certain, "EO-N" is a novel of distinction - impeccably written, every sentence captivating." - Sheri Hoyte for Reader Views

2019 Alison Wiley, a once-idealistic biotech CEO, is processing her new reality: she's the last bud on the last branch of her family tree. On the heels of her mother's illness and crushing death, a phone call from Scott Wilcox, a former combat medic turned government investigator, pulls her into a seventy-four year old mystery that begins beneath the surface of a Norwegian glacier.

1945
Squadron Leader Jack Barton, a cocky Royal Canadian Air Force pilot, flies combat missions over occupied Europe. Major Günther Graf, a war-weary and disillusioned Luftwaffe pilot, is trapped in the unspeakable horrors of Nazi Germany. Their paths, so different yet so similar, are connected by a young girl, a victim of appalling cruelty who may carry the promise of a better future.

As these five lives converge in a sweeping arc that takes readers on a tightly woven and gripping journey-from the destruction and cruelty of war to the relentless pressures of corporate greed-EO-N reminds us that individual actions matter, and that courage comes in many forms.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I couldn’t wait to read what was happening in the lives of the different characters in this book. I believe it’s a MUST READ.

This is sort of a war story from a different point of view -- the difficulties experienced by German Luftwaffe as the war winds down in 1944 in northeastern Germany, and an American, a Canadian and Norwegians in 1974 trying to unravel mysterious crash debris from a Canadian fighter plane from 1944 found under a Norwegian glacier. The German involved is a Luftwaffe pilot who has become disillusioned with the war and sees its end coming who becomes assigned to a 'research' station where terrible medical experiments are performed on children. His work there is strictly clerical. However as the station becomes dismantled he is able to escape with one of the children. As it turns out, some of the debris from a crashed plane in Norway is found to be related to the American's family. So you have an American, her family, the Luftwaffe pilot, the concentration camp child and the Norwegians who located the debris all interconnected. These persons who would normally have been enemies are not really, and they have very similar outlooks and philosophies, which point to the costs of war and the terrible price exacted on all participants, regardless of which side they are on. The 1944 actors and the 1970's actors never meet (except for one at the very end); the novel shows the interconnectedness of all of them.

Generally, Book Titles which are vague don't interest me; I like the Title to give me a clue about what I'm starting, but a friend recommended EO-N to me because he knew I enjoyed books with Historical / Emotional / Exciting / Deep content...but not ones that leave ya wondering half-the-time what's goin' on!

EO-N checked ALL of those boxes for me!

Dave Mason seemed to know what my questions were: I'd think..."well, what about this?" or "what about that?" ... he seemed to be reading his audience like the audience was reading the book, and he'd answer the reader's questions in perfect time.

A wonderful combination of Deep Thought and a Simple Read - yet there's nothing "simple" about it.

Dave takes you from Present Day back to the WW2 era and back to Present Day again with such ease that even though he was spanning decades, it was a seamless transition from one story line to the next...and yet the reader always understood how the various stories/periods of time were all perfectly intertwined.

EO-N was super-exciting and deeply-troubling and exceptionally thought-provoking. I'm gonna put it on my "read-again" list to enjoy after I get old and I can't remember what I read a few years back...

I just finished Dave Masons first novel, “EO-N”. I am in love with the story and the characters. This new and extraordinary author made me feel so connected to the characters in the book. The past and present are beautifully woven together even with many experiences and generations between them. The explicit descriptions are worth reading a second time.

When I was studying children’s literature in college I read the book, “Number the Stars”, by Lois Lowry. This book also highlights the horrors of WWII while making the reader feel connected to the characters. This is where my love for historical fiction began. Reading “EO-N” made me remember how much I love reading about the events and tragedies of that time. Thank you Mr. Mason for taking me back and giving me a story to fall in love with again.

Do you know how you hate being interrupted when you’re reading a great book? That was true with “EO-N”, but at the same time I secretly enjoyed being taken away because I knew there would be more of the story waiting for me when I returned. I never wanted this story to end. I can not wait to read Dave Mason’s second novel.

Yea, 2 shakas 🤙🤙 . Liked the storyline, thought it was well written and imaginative.
Perhaps the only thing we know for sure here is that we only repeat the mistakes of the past. What a waste of life. With the grace of gratitude we can build from the ashes and by enduring our individual sufferings with patience and perseverance we can find hope. Like my mother would say” don’t worry, it only gets worse!” Haha

I love this book because the plot makes sense from beginning to end and doesn't have ridiculous twists and turns like so much of today's fiction. The character development is excellent and you feel as if you know the people as you're reading about them I don't normally rate books but I rated this a five star as I was up all last night because I couldn't put it down highly recommend this book

I was looking forward to flying with the UK and the Germans. Understanding the reasons why young men left home to fly for the UK would have given this story validity. The German Officer's position was believable but the author could have recreated Germany during WWII. People continued to work; raise families; farm and go to the Opera, which is rarely discussed in any WWII story.
I would recommend for a wide audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars My best war novel this year.
Reviewed in Canada on August 27, 2022
As a reader of war stories and novels I was skeptical of a new author. However, the write ups were right. A very realistic and plausible story line which vividly shows the horrors of WWII, as well as the contrasting, but no better, world of today. All interwoven with the humanity and kindness of folk from all walks of life. Dave writes well and keeps you on your toes, not always going where you expect. A good read.

In places this isn't the best writing ever, this mainly in the modern day story. However , where the book goes into the war time past it is spot on. I would say the author is happier living in the past because that is where the narrative shines. Very often a writer tells his story from the view of mainly one pair of eyes but in this book it comes a a whole cast of different people and he achieved this most successfully in his wartime characters. The book is quite an achievement and I really enjoyed it

4.0 out of 5 stars great book

Well written and gripping, this book explores the depravity of Nazi Germany, particularly the medical experiments done on prisoners while it also emphasizes the compassion and bravery of those who risked everything to bring such depravity to an end. Some things weren’t resolved in it—the fate of two missing RCAF airmen was never delineated, but this is a minor complaint. Very good read. I recommend it for those interested in WW II fiction.
