Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a full-length novel, which was self-published in 2014.

The first country hood love story, 8 Seconds to Love, led to a string of novels highlighting country living from rodeos to ranches, but with the characters maintaining the urban dialect that readers love from her. Monica was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, but she now resides in Nome, Texas where most of her country stories take place. Besides being a wife and mother, attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities.

I know it's a book so I give it some leeway in terms of being realistic but REALLY I just can't. Deciding to be a couple over dinner on your first date, they had only known each other for a couple of hours.... threw me off first and foremost and then the relationship moved at lightening speed, I made it to the end to only have more questions... the fairy tale ending was also a bit much as well. Who just up and moves their entire lives like these people did... some good parts some wth moments while reading this book... hence my feeling of bitter sweet.

Bitter Sweet was definitely a Rollercoaster ride. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading it. When I first started the book, I thought I knew where the story would go, but I'm glad that I was wrong. It was very unpredictable and entertaining. Serita and Shawn's relationship was filled with obstacles and drama, but their love was enough for them to overcome it all. With everything Serita went through in her life, she deserved the happy ending she got with Shawn and their families. Shawn was definitely a godsend for her , and I'm glad they were able to build a life together. I love that their family became involved in their lives because I believe they needed all of the support they could get. Although they are fictional characters, I'll still be hoping for the success of their relationship and their lives together. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I became emotionally invested in the story. I recommend this book to anyone that loves black romance stories with regular black people living regular black lives. You will enjoy this story as much as I did.
