- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2024Cinnamon Bun begins as a parody of a LitRPG story which had me rolling my eyes through the first few chapters. Broccoli Bunch (yes, that's her name) arrives in a different world, is given a quest to clean out a nearby dungeon, and immediately ignored weapon training dummies to level up the first skill she picked up: cleaning.
After she *finally* gets around to dealing with her assigned quest, she meets some other characters and then the story really takes off.
It is in contrast to the hardened adventures and other natives of this world where Broccoli really shines.
The cliffhanger ending (which involves actual cliffs) came too soon.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2024This was such a delightful read. I can't recommend this enough for adults or young readers. What few adult jokes or references could easily be overlooked by a younger reader. Broccoli is a ridiculous but joyful main character who is simply excited to be in a new world with a quest and adventure at hand.
The writing is simple but engaging, and I can almost promise you'll find yourself laughing at Broccoli's antics or the System messages.
As a note - as a former educator- I'd particularly recommend this for reading resistant middle/young adults who love video games or TTRPGs (especially girls).
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2020This was a fun read! But it's not quite the story the description makes it out to be.
The MC is a ridiculously cute high school girl who gets isekai'd into a LitRPG world one day. She is incredibly sweet and wholesome. The world she finds herself in, though... not so much, and the book derives a lot of humor from the contrast. For example, one of the first magical items she comes across is a "vibrating wand of cure hysteria." The reader is clearly intended to understand what that actually is, so they can grasp the running gag where the MC *doesn't* understand what it is while everyone else around her does.
Likewise, while her first impulse is always to resolve conflict by making friends with the other party, this isn't that kind of world. Often enough it doesn't work, and things do get violent. Our sweet, innocent Cinnamon Bun becomes fairly adept at killing monsters as time goes on, even if she does prefer to do so only as a last resort!
Overall, this is a good, well-written story. Just don't give it to your kids as "baby's first LitRPG."
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2024Overall I really enjoyed this book by Ravens Dagger. The characters are so unique and at times downright strange. :)
Though there were a few misspelled words , they didn't take away from the fun I had reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2024This book is the perfect amount of fluff, it is great to read as a palette cleanser especially after something gruesome.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2021At the risk of sounding trite, this book grabbed me and took me with it, right from the very beginning. Great story, diverse characters, expansive world building.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2024I don't have a great articulation right now but it is a really fun read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2020This is a collection of some of the chapters in light hearted ongoing serial story. It follows Broccoli, a giggly dance cause your happy person, who is sent to a fantasy RPG world. They have the quest to clean evil from the world and of course that translates into a powerful cleaning skill that is used to overpower enemies and make friends. The story has all the character sheets, XP, levels, and skill notifications of a LitRPG story, but the tone is very light hearted. You follow the main character (MC) as they make friends, explore the world, and unwillingly fight monsters they’d rather try to befriend. It’s a cute story with a good sense of humor, even making fun of itself, and is good casual reading if you are ok with the serial format which has mini arcs of adventure and not a big huge overarching plotline.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is so much cuteness.
This book has a nice combo of overwhelming cuteness with a bit of dark fantasy sprinkled in between.
It's definitely worth buying the first book to try the series out

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to bridge the gap
This is an excellent book series, enjoyed every page of it.
If you are tired of all the drama in real life, this book is for you.
Also, this series bridges the gap between the niche and often violent genre of LitRPG and family friendly modern adventure fantasy book.
This book is good for boys and girls, adults and *gasps* teenagers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't read books like this. Except when I do...
Cinnamon Bun is the type of book I really shouldn't enjoy, totally different to almost all of the books I read.
The main character is basically a human version of Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony, to the point of literally getting the power of friendship, jumping and cuteness.
Her innate happiness, and surety that the world is generally good, put me off the book so much I was still reading at gone midnight the first day I picked it up....
It's hard to describe why I couldn't put it down, but the main character does grow on you, and you find yourself smiling as they make friends, and approach challenges in the oddest way.
The book reminds me a lot of Sense by Jay Boyce, or slightly similar to one of the characters from The Wandering Inn by Pirate Aba, but not as dark.
And while I didn't expect to at the start, I ended up wanting to recommend it to others. Go read it if you want something a little different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy recommendation
Riveting, with a protagonist that feels like a breath of fresh air and a narrative that doesn't seem like it's designed to beat that freshness down. Greatly enjoyed the story so far, look forward to reading further chapters.
