About the author
Mike Mignola is best known as the multiple award-winning creator, writer, and artist of "B.P.R.D." and "Hellboy", but has fostered several other projects like "The Amazing Screw-On Head" and "Baltimore" with Christopher Golden. Although he began working as a professional cartoonist in the early 1980s, drawing 'a little bit of everything for just about everybody' - including characters like Batman and Wolverine - he was also a production designer on the Disney film "Atlantis: The Lost Empire". Mignola also acted as a visual consultant to Guillermo del Toro on "Blade 2" and the film versions of Hellboy, which were broadly adapted by del Toro from the original comic series. Mike Mignola currently lives in southern California with his wife, daughter, and cat.

The art is, as always, stylish and great-looking. Mignola's dark, flat colors make this one of the most unique comics around, and I open it up quite often just to flip through quickly and take in the beautiful scenes inside. All around I really recommend this book, and the entire rest of the series.
Looks very new. Only one crack in the spine, I think it's starting to pull away from th) (which is a bit of a disappointment) but at the price I couldn't beat it.
So glad to finally own this.

Okay, perhaps that's hyperbolic – it's difficult not to rate Alan Moore's 'V for Vendetta' at the very top of the comic tree – but it's not much of an exaggeration.
Taking the superhero genre and giving it a sardonic new life in Hellboy, Mike Mignola created something quite different. The intermingling of history and folktales with modern fantasy gives the books a much darker feel than many other comics, while Mignola's artwork is just a delight to revel in: deceptively simple but incredibly evocative.
I've read others in this series, but the second volume really is top notch.
