In this new novel from Greg Howard, an enterprising boy starts his own junior talent agency and signs a thirteen-year-old aspiring drag queen as his first client. Now in paperback.

Twelve-year-old Mikey Pruitt is a budding entrepreneur. Inspired by his grandfather Pap Pruitt, who successfully ran all sorts of businesses, Mikey is still looking for his million-dollar idea. Unfortunately, most of his ideas--from a roadside general store to croquet lessons--haven't taken off. It isn't until kid drag queen Coco Caliente, Mistress of Madness and Mayhem (aka eighth grader Julian Vasquez) walks into his office (aka his family's storage/laundry room) looking for a talent agent that Mikey thinks he's finally found a business that will put him on the map, and the Anything Talent and Pizzazz Agency is born!

Soon, Mikey has a whole roster of kid clients looking to hit it big or at least win the middle school talent show's hundred-dollar prize. As newly out Mikey prepares Julian for the gig of a lifetime, he realizes there's no rulebook for being gay--and if Julian can be openly gay at school, maybe Mikey can, too, and tell his crush, the dreamy Colton Sanford, how he feels.

Full of laughs, sass, and hijinks, this hilarious, heartfelt story shows that with a little effort and a lot of love, anything is possible.

With the scary anti-drag legislation being enacted in the US, this is a story we need. It was fun throughout, like a drag show, but pulled no punches with the bigotry and bullying young gay kids r experience. High recommendation.

My son loved this book so much he insisted I read it, too, and I’m glad he did! Middle School’s a Drag is hilarious and each character has something magical to add to the story. For me, the most important part of the book is a message that is so important for all children and grownups! Learning to accept yourself and those around you exactly as they are is a lesson that never gets old and can’t be over taught!

My nine year old son wanted to add his own review, which I think speaks volumes! “This hilarious book is so nice, happy, and fun. I recommend Greg Howard’s Middle School’s a Drag to everyone.”

I just finished this book and it is one of the best books I have ever read! I am so thrilled with it, I want it to be a series. I really like that all of the characters embrace themselves and had a fun time through the happy and sad moments. In the end their talents shine through! In fact what are you doing reading these comments, GO READ THIS BOOK!!!

I LOVED this book! It’s touching, hilarious, adventurous, moving, and just a downright delight, but it’s also an important story. The lives of Mikey, his friends and family are explored with such positive, knowing and fine-tuned detail that you’ll find yourself reflecting on it long after you’ve finished this marvel of a read. To have a character like Coco Caliente, a young drag queen readers haven’t seen presented with such depth and love before, make this an instant go-to wonder for kids and adults of all ages! Put this on your must-read list now!

Delightfully entertaining read about a highly creative young entrepreneur. Lovable characters vividly imagined. The book is written for a youthful audience but it is also wonderfully entertaining for the young at heart and the submersed adolescent in everyone of any age.

Howard tells a captivating story of real middle school kids while keeping the reader laughing until our heart aches just a bit. Then we laugh a little more. The main character Michael Pruitt has big dreams and a thousand plans but is in the strange journey of adolescence. Howard has produced characters that our young readers will love meeting and will recognize as their friends. We need our young people to meet characters with depth and color like Michael, Julian, Colton, CoCo and Lyla! A wonderful picture of middle school today.
