A must have for a grieving child

A must have for a grieving child
If your child (or you know a child) who lost a loved one or friend, I HIGHLY recommend this book. It allows the child to customize the story to pertain to the deceased person they are mourning. It explains death and makes it not seem so scary. It validates the child’s feelings as well and assures them that they will be ok. It references many scriptures and helps the child understand the promises God has made. It is beautifully illustrated which really draws the child in and helps them visualize what is being said. After the story, the book lists a breakdown of what was discussed called “Here are some things I now Know” to reiterate what the child just read. Finally, it ends with a very simple but sweet prayer the child can say. The back of the book has a small section “Suggestions for Parent” that lists 9 things to help you comfort your child. This book is written so well and really speaks to the child. It really comforted my 7 year old son who was able to read it to me. I hope this book is a blessing to someone else as much as it was to our family. ❤️

I got this little book for my grandson who is grieving over the death of his uncle. It has truly helped him.

My daughter was really struggling with the loss of her grandfather when I found this book. She is 4 and it was fine for her. It would work best for elementary kids, I think. It asks lots of questions for them to reflect on and gives spaces for older kids (elementary age who can read and write independently) to write their responses. It also has a place for a photo and a place to write the person's name who passed, so when they are done it is almost a keepsake. It also gives a great gospel presentation, talks about heaven and what it is like, and is very reassuring. I read it to my 4 yo in about 3 readings so that she had time to absorb what it was talking about. Older kids could take even longer if they just work through the questions slowly and thoughtfully.
There aren't a lot of resources like this. This is a really good resource to help any child who has lost a loved one.

This is a great book for an adult to read but I wouldn’t read it straight out to children… a lot of deep words and concepts. That said, for an adult to read it and then talk with a child about their feelings and what is True about death and loss: excellent resource.

Wonderful & Comforting! After my grandchildren's (ages 8 & 6), other Pappa's funeral; I took them back to their home, after settling in I gave them each their own copy of this book along with new colored pencils. We read the book together and they couldn't wait to start on their "Pappa Book". Both children worked on their book for 2 hours straight! They wrote, colored, & drew their thoughts, prayers & feelings in their book. They shed tears, poured their hearts out & even told funny Pappa stories & laughed. After their bedtime routine we always say prayers & have a story (or 2). We read their books, this time with their additions. They both took their book to bed to sleep with. I babysit often & this book is requested often, even 6 mos. later. They were very close to their Pappa & this really helped them. I wish their was a version for teens & adults!

Everyone with children need this book in their home . I would recommend for school libraries also. It’s hard for kids to understand death or know how they are supposed to feel. When the emotions are not quiet clear or the reasons for an unexpected death. This book is a go to .

I bought this for my daughter who lost her dad and found it to be extremely helpful and gave her a more clear understanding of the situation.. what happens after death etc. Very religious, talks about God's plan & Heaven throughout the book, has some good points and answers some of her questions. I even found it brought me a bit of comfort also. well worth every penny and shipping was quick.
