Please heed all warnings. ****This is a series about captivity in a FICTIONAL and EROTICIZED setting. It contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.****
OVER 150,000 COPIES SOLD!
This edition of CAPTIVE IN THE DARK features a new cover that when combined with the other books in DARK DUET: Platinum Edition series makes a lovely addition to any bookshelf.
It is NO DIFFERENT in content from previous editions of the series.
CAPTIVE IN THE DARK (BOOK 1):
Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.
Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.
SEDUCED IN THE DARK (BOOK 2):
What is the price of redemption?
Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood.
The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it’s all coming to an end.
Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance?
Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?
EPILOGUE | THE DARK DUET (BOOK 3):
It didn’t happen exactly as Livvie said. She’s been very kind to me in the retelling of our story. The truth is far more…complicated.
DARK DUET | THE BONUS MATERIAL (BOOK 4):
1) The NEW 32,000 word novella DETERMINED TO OBEY, featuring secondary characters Kid, Felipe, and Celia.
2) Eight scorching-hot fan-written Dark Duet short stories hand-selected by the author.
3) CJ's favorite interviews & Reviews

Because of an incident when she was young, Livvie has grown up being branded a "whore" by her mother. Livvie tries desperately to gain her mothers love and forgiveness and she grows up very conservatively. She dresses dowdy clothes, she gets straight A's, she doesn't party or do any of the things normal girls like her do. One day, as she is being aggressively hit on by a stranger, a handsome man comes to her rescue. But Caleb is no knight in shining armor. He has a dark and disturbing history which has put him in the path to his current line of work. Caleb was sold as a slave as a boy and had a horrible like growing up. 12 years ago, he was rescued by Rafiq who taught him all there is to know about capturing, training and selling pleasure slaves. Rafiq has been after a very dangerous man who killed his family and as a way to show his gratitude for saving him, Caleb have vowed to kill him for Rafiq. Their best opportunity to get in contact with him is by selling him the best pleasure slave they've ever had. Enter Livvie.
Livvie wakes up tied up, beaten and blindfolded in a van with brutal men. She is taken to Caleb. At first, she is shocked to learn that the man she considered her savior that day has now become her captor. She fights it with all she has until she is eventually broken down by him. Either way, she never manages to truly lose her spunk and she holds on to a shred of hope that she might be able to escape, no matter how small that shred of hope might be. But no matter how many times she is tortured or humiliated by Caleb, she can't help but feel...something for him. She has a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome, maybe it's something more? But she isn't the only one feeling this way. One minute Caleb is cruel to her and the next he is sweet to her. The more time he spends with her (not that she has a choice), the more his emotions and feelings get confused and he starts to rethink his plan. Maybe he can set her free? Maybe she can forgive him and love him? Maybe Caleb can actually love her back? Maybe...
I know what your thinking. He kidnapped her! How can she (or me for that matter) possibly like him!? Well, that is exactly what I was thinking too, but this is just a case where you will never be able to comprehend it until you actually read it. The writing is so hauntingly dark and beautiful all at once that it is impossible not to let your emotions get the best of you and completely get lost in this story. I was very skeptical going into this book and with good reason. This is in no way a light or fluffy book. It is extremely dark, disturbing, twisted and...so good! The fact that it is told from both POV's lets you understand why they feel the way they do and why they are so messed up. Livvie and Caleb are both very broken souls with so many demons in their past and the only way to get deal with them might just be with each other. Deep down, they both just want to be loved. They desperately want it and need it!
Captive In the Dark managed to shock me at every turn and threw some curve-balls my way that I didn't see coming. The biggest of all of them was the way I felt about the book. I went through just about every emotion I had with this book and just when I didn't think I can handle any more, we are left with one killer of a cliffhanger ending. I'm DYING to read the second (and final) book in this series, Seduced In the Dark. Let me put it out there that this book is NOT for everyone! It's dark, graphic and explicit but so damn good. If you think this book might be something you might like, get ready for the biggest mind-f*** of your life! One piece of advice is to not make assumptions until you have tried it for yourself. These aren't your typical characters and this is by no means your typical love story, but it is a brilliantly written, heart pounding and and gut-wrenching story that will blow you away and might leave you questioning your sanity. (Did I really love this book!? Am I crazy?)
(Wowsers! So much for my very short review. I feel like I just poured my heart out!)
5 out of 5 sparkly stars!
Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from Captive In the Dark:
-Revenge, Caleb reminded himself. That was the purpose of all of this.
-He caressed my face, running his finger over my earlobe, down the column of my throat, the back of his fingers brushing across my collarbone. My breathing became broken, heavy. This was wrong, and yet, it didn't feel so bad.
-He would never admit it, but from time to time, he needed to feel pain as much as he needed to dole it out.
-"I hate you."
"You don't hate me," He said it like it was a fact, like he knew me. He knelt between my open legs and leaned over me with his hands on the carpet. I turned my head to side. He kissed me, first behind my ear, then down my neck. "But you wish you did."
-Now he lay in bed next to her, holding her like a lover, smelling her hair and caressing her arm. Worse, he didn't think he could stop. He didn't want to stop.
-Caleb was a strange person, cruel and inhuman; a monster, and yet, at other times, he seemed so capable of something like caring. He made me cry and scream and shake with fear and nearly a split second later he could make me almost believe he wasn't responsible for any of it. He could hold me and make me feel safe. How was that possible?
-Stroke her or strangle her? He still didn't know. He only knew he wanted his hands on her.
-For the first time in recent memory, Caleb wanted something other than revenge. He wanted the girl. He wanted Livvie.

Nereyda @Mostly YA Book Obsessed
The book begins with Caleb basically stalking Olivia. He's looking for a particular type of girl to train to become a slave. He plans to train her, take her back to the middle east, and use her for revenge. Olivia fits the profile he's looking for. From what he's observed, she seems like the perfect sub. As the story progresses after he's taken her captive, he's surprised to find that Olivia is stronger than she first appeared. Olivia is a survivor and a fighter. He's never met anyone like her and she stirs up feelings that he can't quite name. See, Caleb doesn't remember his childhood. His earliest memories are from when he was used in a brothel as a child. Disturbing, right? Honestly, Caleb broke my heart. While I was nervous for Olivia, I wanted to learn more about Caleb. He is one of the most wounded characters I've ever read.
As I was reading, I kept thinking that I must have a really high threshold for disturbing situations. Maybe it's because I read so many different types of books? Anyway, while I was reading Caleb and Olivia's story, despite the circumstances in which they were brought together, I wanted them to be together. Because seriously...I loved and hated Caleb simultaneously. I was somewhat prepared for some of the violence, but I really felt like Caleb treated Olivia the same as a Dom would treat a Sub. From what I've read anyway. The sexual scenes between Caleb and Olivia were pretty darn hot. I had to hide my kindle on the plane and I'm sure my face was flushed. Now, there was more violence in the second book, but I'll review that book in a separate post.
Overall, I really liked this story. This is not an easy book to read, so I'll make that warning very clear. However, it was beautifully written and truly gave me a clear sense of what was happening and how Olivia was feeling. I also feel that it's a testament to the author that she could make such an unlikable character out to be a hero. That's a hard feat. I couldn't wait to get to the next book and I was happy to have it on hand. If you like books that are dark, emotional, and psychological, this is a great pick for you.
Quotes:
~He's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, that includes puppies, babies, rainbows, sunsets, and sunrises. I can't even call him a man-men don't look this good.-Loc2237
~'You're not a damsel in distress and I'm not the handsome prince come to save you.' No. He wasn't. In real life you has to save yourself.-Loc3364
~For the first time in recent memory, Caleb wanted something other than revenge. He wanted the girl.-Loc3475

This being said, wow! It's all I have left to say: this story will make you go all sorts of emotions, it's like watching a thriller movie.
Definitely recommend it, but not for the fainted-hearted.
When Olivia is kidnapped, she is shocked to find her new master is someone she’d considered her hero. But her Master is far from the image she holds in her fantasies, and she needs to learn to obey him.
Will she find a way to escape the fate he’s planned for her, or will he turn her into the perfect slave?
CJ Roberts “Captive in the dark” is a dark, twisted romance featuring slavery and abuse. Despite its heavy theme, the book completely captivated me. Learning about Olivia’s and Caleb’s past made them more real and their actions comprehensible. Their thoughts and feelings were palpable throughout the book, and it was fascinating to see how their “relationship” developed and how they both battled with what they should or should not feel for each other.
The first part is a 5/5 not sure about the other parts but that's all from my side
