Their names stand for the quest for justice and equality.Martin grew up in a loving family in the American South, at a time when this country was plagued by racial discrimination. He aimed to put a stop to it. He became a minister like his daddy, and he preached and marched for his cause.Abraham grew up in a loving family many years earlier, in a Europe that did not welcome Jews. He found a new home in America, where he became a respected rabbi like his father, carrying a message of peace and acceptance. Here is the story of two icons for social justice, how they formed a remarkable friendship and turned their personal experiences of discrimination into a message of love and equality for all.

This is a wonderful book, detailing the early lives, deep friendship and important contributions of two giants of the civil rights movement. Although intended for children, this book is educational for readers of all ages. The delightful artwork helps to convey an important message.

This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen. It is appropriate for children and adults alike. In it we learn of a little-known account in the Civil Rights Movement, when Rabbi Herschel joined Dr. King in his amazing march for freedom. The story is so important because it is true; it is our country's history from our not-too-distant past. Both men believed in brotherhood and peace and unity, and they had amazingly more in common that would appear. The illustrator did a phenomenal job also. This is a 5 star book. Add it to your library; you won't be disappointed !

The book design for this book is creative and very effective. It is a story about two men: Martin Luther King, Jr. and Abraham Joshua Heschel. I loved the way the illustrator used one set of colors to depict one man, another set to depict the other and merged the tow when they came together for a common cause. Any story about Martin Luther King, Jr. is powerful but this one effectively narrates another facet of his story and illustrates, through art and words, the significance of his message of equality, regardless of the color of your skin, religion or nationality.

I always find it difficult to find age-appropriate books that discuss the civil rights work that Martin Luther King Jr. did or that time period in general. We heard the author speak recently and I decided to order this book. It has become one of my kids' favorites, and mine. The level is approachable and understandable for my 8 year old and even 5 year old. They find the story compelling, interesting and have asked many great questions. It was a great conversation starter. I highly recommend it.

I absolutely loved this book and its wonderful retelling of this amazing, true story in such a sensitive and engaging manner for a young audience. I checked it out from the library first because I had heard about it, and then promptly ordered my own copy and several others as gifts. Every American should own this book--and certainly every African-American and/or Jewish household should have its own copy to proudly share with children and grandchildren. Uplifting!

This is the perfect way to introduce two civil rights giants as well as explore how shared experiences can make the most unlikely friendships.
