Chased (Off the Itinerary) Paperback – May 8, 2020
Purchase options and add-ons
“Chased would be a great addition to a k-12 Christian school library. Middle schoolers and up will enjoy it.” - Library Lady’s Kid Lit
It’s been a year since Marlee, her sisters, and the Miles boys survived an avalanche. Sure, it was a little embarrassing for them when all the neighbors saw them on the news, but they love being outdoors, and what are the odds that another tragedy would strike this adventurous group? Has anyone calculated the statistics of being hit with two natural disasters? It has to be low, so of course the two families planned to backpack again this summer.
When the teens first meet Thad, a dehydrated hiker on the trail, they give him water and food and help him recover. He seems harmless until he tells them to hike a few extra miles at sunset. Then Lydie finds a hand-drawn map that Thad dropped, and they discover why he is so eager to get away from the Stanley girls and Miles boys. So eager that he starts chasing them.
Now they have to climb up unforgiving ridges, sneak through the night, and - is that thunder and lightning? To make matters worse, Marlee has a nagging worry that her older sister Ellie is preparing to move away from home.
What is God’s plan? How will they get away from Thad before it’s too late?
“…realistic, exciting, and suspenseful…Chased is the perfect sequel to Avalanche. It’s gripping, suspenseful, entertaining, and, best of all, Christian.” -David M., Beta Reader

About the author
Liz is the author of the Off the Itinerary series, the wife of a professional tree climber, and the mom of three energetic and laundry-producing children. Liz once spent a summer in Colorado teaching rock climbing, which she believes was a fantastic way to make money and memories. She resides with her family in Wisconsin, where they enjoy hiking and rock climbing. Liz and her husband have also backpacked in Colorado and the Grand Canyon, which have provided inspiration for her writing. She makes adventurous stories to encourage others to find adventures and expand their comfort zones (though admittedly, she still needs lots of practice expanding her own comfort zone).

- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2022This is the second book in Boyle’s Off the Itinerary series. I was swept away by Avalanche and left completely breathless by this sequel, Chased. These books are exactly the types of books I adore—exciting adventures with great characters and plenty of affirming faith.
When the two sets of siblings embark on another hiking trip, they are expecting a much calmer vacation than their encounter the year before with an avalanche. But trouble continues to find its way onto the path of these family friends. All seems to be right on track until the teens encounter a lone hiker. Soon their quiet trek in the woods is anything but peaceful.
There is enough background information for this book to be read alone, but getting to know the characters through the first adventure is quite enjoyable. This is a great series for teens that parents will also appreciate—enjoyable adventures with wholesome values. Okay—time to go start on the third book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2021Chased is the second book in the Off the Itinerary series by M. Liz. Boyle. Just like the first book, this book chronicles the travels and adventures of two families, including their children, who take vacations together. Just like the first book, this book includes adventure, danger, and family relationships.
This outdoor adventure contains wonderful descriptions of the scenery and more. I love the relationships of the five young people throughout these books. I remember growing up how our family would take trips with another family with 2 daughters our ages, and this book brought back those memories. This Young Adult novel offers a message of faith, courage, endurance, and more. So check it out for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2020Once again, this 2nd book in this series is a great book. It is a fun, outdoor adventure packed with lots of situations that challenge our pre-teens/teens to "choose the high road" of integrity, kindness, and good choices.

~We've got to start with the adventure! While not in your face from the get-go like Avalanche, the plot gradually built as the story progressed. This made a fun and intriguing time. The flash flood was particularly intense, and I could hardly put the book down. Again, there were neat survival takeaways. One thing I found interesting was the drastic difference in dealing with a grizzly bear vs a black bear. Don't confuse the two.
~One thing I appreciated was the noticeable growth and maturity of the characters and in turn, the circumstances in their lives were very realistic and offered the readers sound advice when dealing with older siblings moving away and trust in relationships. I felt these side issues worked well alongside the main conflict.
~ The Christian aspects were again on point. My favorite was the amazing analogy about staying grounded and not being swept off in the flood of the world and all its temptations, beliefs, and corruptness. So true!
~The rangers! That was so neat when they realized just who these kids were. I liked that part.
Dislikes:
~I liked the "chased" idea. Thad was a great villain and the thing with the treasure was brilliant. However, there wasn't enough. I know it probably sounds crazy, but I wanted to see more of Thad going after the kids. More on the run and close calls.
~I wanted to know what happened with the treasure. I hope we haven't heard the last of that.
~After all was said and done and our characters were reunited, the ending seemed to move a bit slowly. Don't get me wrong, the air needed to be cleared between siblings, and a certain discussion needed to take place but after all the excitement and near-death, it was slow.
Overall:
~ 4 stars! This was a much-needed sequel! I enjoyed this immensely and have already started the next book.
~I can't decide if I like this better than the first book. I think in their own ways, they're both my favorites for different reasons. I like Avalanche better for its action and I like Chased more for its character growth and sibling relationships.
~If you enjoy a good clean adventure, close-knit families working together, and God-honoring YA fiction don't pass this series up!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2021Really enjoyed this suspense-filled adventure. Characters dealing with life threatening circumstances and making tough choices. Wholesome Christian fiction with God's amazing creation as the backdrop.
