I have all three editions of DK "The Universe". The 3rd edition offers the following revisions from the 2nd edition:
Many thumbnail-sized photos have been added of revised throughout the book, including those on pages 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 31, 36, 37,41, 43, 49, 54, 55, 90, 94, 105, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 170, 172, 181, 220, 227, 238, 239, 240, 243, 252, 257, 264, 265, 269, 271, 284, 285, 286, 311, 312, 320, 323, 324, 336, and 346. The section of Mercury has been expanded and now included complete photographic coverage of the planet. The Moon landing table on page 141 has been updated. A two page photo of Mount Sharp has replaced the Martian Dunes photo on pages 168 -169 in the Mars section. Several additions to the asteroids section, including 1 Ceres on page 175., 101955 Bennu on page 176, and 162173 Ryugu on page 177. There is a new photo of "Saturn from above" on pp. 198-199, a new section on Pluto and Charon on pp. 208-209, and a new Carina Nebula spread on pp. 248-249. "Gomez Hamburger Nebula" has been replaced with "Southern Crab Nebula" on page 262, and Extra Solar Planets on pp. 296-299 has been revisied. A new photo of "Beyond the Milky Way" appears on pp. 300-301. There is a new photo of the constellation Octans on p. 425. The photo of the Leonid meteor shower on pp. 426-427 has been replaced with a photo of the Perseid meteor shower. The "Monthly Sky Guide" section tables have been updated through 2027 and eclipses through 2028. There may be other revisions I haven't noticed yet. Unlike the 1st and 2nd editions, the 3rd edition of "Universe" does not have a slipcover.
I have collected a sizeable astronomy library over the past 50 years, and I consider this to be the best overall book. There are a few topics I would have liked to have seen addressed, for example there are only minor mentions of dark matter and dark energy even though they comprise 95% of the universe. However, this book contains a wealth of information that should appeal to anyone or any family that is interested in science, knowledge in general, or the nature of existence. I find it particularly appealing that with this book, you have information in your hand that humans have been striving to learn for thousands of years.
The only bad note is that the book arrived slightly damaged, apparently someone had dropped it on the right upper corner and dented the cardboard cover and slightly wrinkled a few hundred of the pages. Unfortunately, similar damage has occurred on other DK Smithsonian books I have ordered from Amazon, including "Science" and "Earth", so beware.

First, this book is huge. Both by size and by number of pages. Each page is packed with information, infographs, pictures, diagrams, etc., that really explain and give visual to the information that is being explained. The book is well laid out and allows you to jump around by referencing other parts of the book (by page number) when reading for further explanation/reading on various topics. So really, it's like a wikipedia of the Universe. I found this book to be a bit overwhelming, but only because it's packed with information and there is a lot to gain from it. I would say that this book is probably better suited for teens/adults. It's big, it's heavy, and it's worth every penny.

Some books are merely picture books that are designed for the coffee table, and certainly this could be placed on a coffee table, since the pictures are magnificant. However published in 2020 the tons of up-to-date information makes the recently new photos and discoveries available for our viewing pleasure.

Seems like it could be used in 4 year college text book; only much nicer then any text book I ever read.

How they managed to charge only 50 dollars istead of 90 dollars for this huge colorful book is unbelievable. Downloading as a kindle is only feasable if you have a big screen computer and lots of memory. I have the book but will attempt to download the Kindle book at $1.99 for my big screen computer.

All subjects about our universe are cover clearly in detail. A must for childeren of any age.

This is a visually focused book which really works best as a physical coffee table type book — as a kindle book, even on an iPad, a regular website would be better. Beautiful images and relatively short, accessible explanations, and the whole thing is presented in a reasonably structured way (although it doesn’t really go into why the categories and distinctions are relevant, or much of the history.)

This book has beautiful illustration and great information for young and old! It is more than worth the cost!! My kids love the book and are so excited to learn about the universe! This was a fantastic investment in their home learning!

But, Amazon continues to package books very poorly! The box was over sized and there was such a small about of plastic wrap in it that the covers of the book were quite damaged! I had to return it and order a replacement. Although the replacement was not damaged this time there was no plastic wrap in the box but the box was smaller which prevented the book from moving around as much. I am shocked the second one wasn’t damaged. I recommend trying to buy this book from a book store or a seller that packages properly to prevent damage. I have ordered quite a few books from Amazon and it say 90% of heavy hard cover books have been damaged. So frustrating!

Eu daria uma nota mais baixa pela condição que a Amazon me entregou, com amassado na capa, mas como estamos avaliando o produto, não posso estragar sua pontuação.
