Motto for Murder (Merry Wrath Mysteries) Paperback – April 13, 2018
Purchase options and add-ons
For ex-CIA Agent turned Girl Scout troop leader, Merry Wrath, planning a wedding is infinitely more terrifying than the time she was a mole in Carlos the Armadillo’s drug cartel. To make matters worse, while plagued by insomnia (brought on by diabolical details that include bizarre things like "boutonnieres") Merry and her cat, Philby, witness a midnight murder next door.
Or do they? With her record of sleeplessness, everyone from her fiancé, Rex, to her Girl Scout troop are questioning her sanity. And when strange incidents of arson start popping up all over Who’s There, Iowa and a mysterious woman vanishes, Merry begins to believe her neighbors are foreign spies.
Throw in meeting her fiancé’s odd twin sisters, late night visits with Mr. Fancy Pants—the King Vulture at the zoo—and a scary sleep study, and Merry wonders if she’s in danger of losing her mind…or her life.

About the author
Leslie Langtry is the USA TODAY Bestselling author of three Cozy Comedy series, including the Merry Wrath Mysteries, the Greatest Hits Series, the Aloha Lagoon Ukulele Mysteries and Sex, Lies & Family vacations.
She is not, nor ever has been a former CIA agent or an assassin (a question that surprisingly comes up more than you'd think). She was a Girl Scout Volunteer for 15 years and was a troop leader for 10 years - which gave her a wealth of material that she uses in her books.
Leslie lives in the Midwest with her family and assorted animals and has an unnatural obsession with cake. You can find out more about her and her books at http://www.leslielangtry.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2018This is such a fun series. I read them all last week and was lucky to have a new release today. Merry is a strong heroine who doesn't humble in to clues or need a man to save her - she does it herself. I love the girls in her Girl Scout Troop (especially Betty), Kelly and Philby & Martini - strong character development all the way around. There is a pretty solid mystery in there too that will usually keep you guessing until the end....keep you laughing too.
My one nitpick is the sorta love triangle, which seems to hopefully be wrapped up by the end of this book. That is my only complaint - it's been done over and over and it's tired. I still am giving this book and the series 5 stars - read them! You will love them!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 20244 Stars for sure. Certainly funny and good strong women. I look forward to more books about this amazing family.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2024Marry is having problems sleeping so what's there to do? Spy on the neighbors and of course what she saw she just couldn't leave it alone. While trying to find the missing person she was also trying to everything ready for her wedding and helping the girl scout kids.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2018The 6th book in the Merry Wrath series is amazing! Merry, ex-CIA agent hiding in her old hometown after being outed has a wedding to plan to Rex a detective in the local police force and it is just causing her so much stress, it turned her into an insomniac. While pacing the floors all night she stops and sees her new neighbors across the street dragging a body in the wee hours of the morning. Did she really see that? Who are these people. On the edge, she calls Rex and tells him he has to investigate, she knows a body when she sees one and she is not hallucinating. After nothing was found, she feels she has to investigate herself and so it starts. Of course at the same time she and her BFF, Kelly are in charge of a group of pre-teen girl scouts who have a special day to plan for. Just something else to do. Especially since the girls love Merry and her crazy teachings. But she still has a wedding to plan for and has NO idea what to do and besides, she thinks her neighbors are murderers or even spies. And Kelly signed her up with a therapist at the hospital to help alleviate the stress and a sleep study to see why she can't sleep. To help, Merry calls her Mom in Washington who is sweet and take-charge to help plan the wedding and between Kelly and Merry's mom, things in the wedding planning direction start to fall into place. But now there is the Veterinarian's assistant who goes missing and her house is tossed. What is going on? AND there are fires that are suspicious. And Riley her old CIA partner shows up in town causing some confusion in Merry's head as well as what is he doing in her town, she no longer works with him. Riley is now working with the FBI not the CIA. Why is he here? Oh and lets add to all the craziness above with meeting Rex's twin sisters he had been estranged from for years. This gives Merry pause, she really doesn't know anything about her fiance's family, having never met his sisters or even his parents. Oh My. Well this entire crazy storyline not only keeps you on the edge of your seat, but has you laughing all the way through to the end!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2018I laughed out loud reading the first page and the book got funnier from that point on. Love the humor in this series! I'm also quite enamored with the characters and I have to say that I think all girl scouts should be like the scouts in this series. grin Another solid mystery with our intrepid ex-spy using her rather large skill set to investigate - fabulous. Things seem like they're settled, seem being the operative word here, between Rex and Merry. I like Rex - he's a stand up, wonderful guy but I just don't see him with Merry as her long term choice?? I could see a hilarious break up with Rex eventually ending up happy [who knows, Dr. Body's still available, right?]. Riley - that's what I'm thinking....
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2023It’s a fun romp of a story, but it’s time for Merry to quite being wish washy on the Rex/Riley thing. It’s time for that to come off the table and leave room for other mayhem and foolishness.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2018Another wonderful Merry Wrath Mystery! I laughed so much that my husband was curious about what was so funny. Poor Merry has insomnia and it has her questioning everything she sees. Was it a dream? Did it really happen? No one believes what she thinks she saw. Even her cats have you laughing. One looks like Hitler and the other looks like Elvis! Leslie Langtry is a wonderful author and the only thing that would make me hapoier is if we could get this series to come out more often! These books are worth the wait.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2018I have enjoyed Merry Wrath since the first book that I received as an ARC. I did not receive this Book 6 as an ARC. I just couldn't pass up Merry!
I am so happy that Merry & Rex are finally on their road to marriage. Merry's mom is an interesting twist to this story. Kelly is such a good friend to Merry but I still really enjoy the Girl Scout Troop! Those girls are such characters! The stuff they come up with!
But I digress...murder and espionage wreck Merry's life in sleepy Iowa but I loved the twists and turns. I enjoy the Midwest references and the connotations.
If you haven't read any of the previous Merry Wrath Mysteries, please don't think that you have to read them before this one. But you will want to pick them up after you have read this one! Here's to Girl Scout cookies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms Langtry Rocks!!
I love this series of books, the humour is excellent and each time I read one I cannot wait for the next. A great list of characters with Merry leading the way ably assisted by her girl scout group, trusty best friend and bofriend. Hysterical and brilliant. More please and as soon as possible!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mayhem aplenty in Who's There.
Another spy filled day in Merry's life. A very sleep deprived Merry sets out to prove the neighbours are not all they seem. Rex's family makes an appearance with Reilly popping in as well. These stories are light and enjoyable to read. Always a fun ride as a reader.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to the Merry Wrath series.
Motto for Murder sees Merry Wrath convinced her new neighbours are illegal spies. It also sees Merry Wrath suffering from insomnia, and pre-wedding planning jitters.
The 6th Merry Wrath book is a laugh out loud adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. BEtween missing Veterinary assistants, the girl scout troop of future spies and her cats, I'm not surprised Merry had trouble organising a wedding. Not to mention her future sisters-in-law and their taxidermy shop.
Motto for Murder is an excellent addition to the Merry Wrath series. If you've not read it, do yourself a favour and get to it. And if you haven't started reading this series yet, what are you waiting for?
